A Legacy of Craftsmanship

CL Yachts is the luxury yacht brand of Cheoy Lee Shipyards, a company founded in the 1870s by the Lo family at the Yiu Kee Shipyard in Shanghai. Having moved its marine construction activities to Hong Kong in 1936, Cheoy Lee has been run by the same family for four generations with the same dedication, passion and spirit of innovation. Today production takes place at the Hin Lee facility — a 12-hectare site on the Pearl River in Zhuhai — which holds ISO9001 and ISO 45001 certifications.

Pioneers of Composite Construction

Cheoy Lee pioneered the use of fibreglass (GRP) for vessel construction from 1960, working alongside Lloyd's Register to develop the composite construction rules that are still used today. In 1975 the yard delivered the world's largest molded fibreglass yacht at the time: the 130-foot (40m) motoryacht Shango II, classed with Lloyd's Register. In the 1990s, Cheoy Lee continued to collaborate with Lloyd's Register on its composite construction quality assurance manual.

The CL Yachts Brand

The CL Yachts brand was unveiled in 2018 and made its international debut at the Miami Boat Show with the CLA76 and CLB72. Since then the range has expanded across four series — the sporty A Series, the intelligently designed B Series, the flagship crossover X Series, and the hybrid C Series — earning recognition including the GOOD DESIGN Award, the International Yacht & Aviation Award, the Bronze A' Design Award, and the Yacht Style “Builder in Asia” title in 2025. The B Series CLB88 was a finalist for the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards, while the X Series CLX96 was a finalist in three categories of the same awards. In 2024, Cheoy Lee also delivered a series of all-carbon and hybrid catamaran passenger ferries as part of a Hong Kong government initiative to reduce harbour carbon emissions.

Design Philosophy

CL Yachts designs its range for modern explorers — boaters who want purposeful, comfortable yachts that perform equally well on passages over the horizon and in local waters. The X Series crossover blends smart, sturdy construction with easy elegance. The C Series introduces hybrid catamaran technology, blending sustainable innovation with contemporary design. The B Series prioritises hassle-free operation and maintenance while delivering generous space and style. The A Series offers sleek, sporty performance complemented by comfortable modern interiors.
