Our History

Scimitar Power Catamarans is a name synonymous with Australian ingenuity, efficiency, sea worthiness and practicality beyond its years, and well above its size.

Established in the mid 1990's, the original Scimitar 1010 was developed by a team of experienced professionals and boaties who were chasing the seamless blend of… efficiency, stability, safety, shallow draft, and large deck spaces in an affordable platform.

What the team developed, the market loved, awarding it the powerboat of the year when it launched in 1997.

Until 2012, under the stewardship of Bryan and Linda Bradford, Scimitar delivered 65 vessels to a range of clients across the world, developing a following and respect the envy of many much larger brands.

After a few years of hibernation, Bryan and Linda entrusted the brand, the IP and the tooling to Tommy Ericson, a maritime industry professional of more than 20 years, to bring the Scimitar 1010 back to the market. The sale of Scimitar was completed with an unwritten level of responsibility to ensure that the next generation scimitar becomes the new benchmark in Australian-built power catamarans – and those that know the boat realise that is no easy achievement.

Since 2017, Tommy and his team at Aus Ships Group have been working to modernise the look, integrate new technologies, systems and equipment all whilst ensuring the functionality, reliability and feel of the Scimitar remains.
