About

The story of Seaforce

Seaforce is a long-established New Zealand boat builder specialising in award-winning fibreglass trailer boats engineered for Kiwi conditions. Founded in 1986 to meet a growing need for high-performance composite craft, the company quickly made its mark with the 16ft Utility, developed with extensive input from recreational boaters and fishermen. That early success set benchmarks for practical layouts, safe handling and reliable performance, and led to a series of popular models including the Intrepid, Adventurer, Ranger 444 and the super-stable Robson Kona Cat.

Over the following decades Seaforce has continually expanded and refined its range, introducing multi-activity vessels and dedicated fishing platforms tailored to New Zealand waters. The 575, later renamed the 600, became a standout model, earning multiple honours at major national shows, including repeated wins for Best GRP Fishing Boat under 6 metres at the New Zealand Boat Show and recognition at the Christchurch Boat Show. At the smaller end of the range, the 430 "Winna" runabout has twice been judged Best All Purpose Boat under 6 metres, becoming a favourite for easy, affordable day boating.

A defining feature of the brand is its leadership in pontoon design. In 2008 Seaforce launched what it describes as the first true fibreglass pontoon boat, the 530 Mate, combining the proven stability and safety of a pontoon hull with the clean lines and ride quality of fibreglass construction. The 530 Mate secured the Hellman International Innovation Award at the New Zealand Boat Show and was followed by the 530 Ute and 530 Skipa, each earning strong acclaim for safe, dry, confidence-inspiring performance. A continuing programme of development has extended the pontoon concept into larger, offshore-capable platforms.

Safety and structural integrity sit at the core of Seaforce’s design philosophy. All models are built using high-grade isophthalic resins approved by international classification societies, delivering superior strength, impact resistance and durability. The hulls incorporate polyethylene foam for flotation, chosen for its environmental benefits, controlled distribution and resistance to moisture and chemicals. Seaforce designs exceed New Zealand’s CPC requirements, providing level, upright flotation in all models under 6 metres and underpinning their reputation as unsinkable, family-ready boats. This commitment to quality is recognised through long ownership cycles and strong resale values among Seaforce owners.

Every Seaforce boat is built in New Zealand by experienced boat builders who take pride in hands-on craftsmanship from layup through to fit-out. Attention to detail in finishing, deck layouts and storage solutions reflects close collaboration with serious anglers and family boaters alike. The brand’s line-up covers versatile runabouts, dedicated fishing craft and offshore-capable hardtops, all designed to deliver a stable, dry and comfortable ride whether day tripping close to shore or chasing game fish offshore.

Customisation is a key part of the ownership experience. Seaforce offers tailored packages with a choice of engines, electronics and trailers to suit individual boating programmes, supported by strong relationships with leading outboard suppliers. Across the range, the company positions itself as a provider of quality boats without compromise: practical, safe and engineered for New Zealand’s demanding marine environment.
