The story of Southern Boats
Southern Boats Limited encompasses Southern Alloy Boats and Lazercraft Boats, and they pride themselves on offering some of the finest handcrafted alloy boats available today.
The company originated from humble beginnings as independent boatbuilders in Dunedin during the 1980s and 1990s. Lazercraft and Southern merged in 2008 to bring the best of both brands under one roof. Despite being distinctly different brands, both share a trademark quality finish evident in every boat that leaves their factory.
Lazercraft Boats offers a range of Softtop and Hardtop craft from 4.9m to 7.0m featuring alloy hulls and composite deck mouldings, except for the Divemaster models. Southern Boats produces larger 6.5m to 11.00m models with alloy hull and deck, composite hardtops, and interior mouldings. Many features often considered optional are included as standard in Southern boats, with semi-custom layouts or models also available upon request.
Southern Boats maintains its production roots in Dunedin with a facility in Mosgiel. The team's skilled boatbuilders, painters, upholsterers, and fit-out technicians have spent thousands of hours perfecting their craft to deliver boats with proven performance. They have dealers in Auckland, Marlborough, and Queenstown, plus direct sales for Otago/Southland and exports through the Southern Boats factory. Their enthusiastic team ensures the perfect fit for each customer’s new Southern Boat.
