Being Wally
Wally stands for avant garde, restless development and the conviction that form should follow function. Since 1994, these principles have spurred us to create some of the most emblematic yachts afloat. Our only rule is that there are no rules.
Origins and Innovation
Wally was founded in 1994 by Luca Bassani, who had already pioneered carbon composite construction, the self-tacking jib, and flush decks with the first Wallygator (1991) — a family yacht that combined cruising comfort with maxi performance and was the first boat in the world to have a carbon mast. Wally's founding model, the ketch Nariida, was the first all-carbon yacht, featuring a hydraulic sail trimming system and submarine anchor.
In 1995, Genie of the Lamp introduced push-button sail handling to the world, allowing a 24 m sloop to be handled by a single person, as well as the much-copied open deck layout. In 1998, Tiketitan pioneered the Terrace-on-the-sea beach club and inside-outside living concepts, and introduced Magic Trim for faster sail handling. The same year, Wally B revolutionised yacht interiors, introducing the flexibility concept.
Design and Performance
Wally yachts are technical masterpieces predominantly built in carbon fibre. Wally introduced carbon in the yachting sector, and its skill with it remains unmatched. Clean lines allied to performance-driven naval architecture mean that every yacht Wally builds is a sophisticated work of art, inside and out.
Wally entered the power boat sector in 2001 with the wallytender, and in 2003 launched the wallypower118, with a novel vertical bow, glass superstructure, opening bulwarks, interceptor system, forward social cockpit and chine dumper. In 2012, wallyace marked Wally's move into displacement motor yachts.
Awards and Recognition
Wally has twice received the Compasso d'Oro from ADI — first for Tiketitoo (2004) and again for Ryokan 2 (2008), which also won the German Design Award in 2010. The wallypower118 was the only boat selected by San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art for the exhibition Glamour: Fabricating affluence.
Ferretti Group Era
In 2019, Wally became a brand of the Ferretti Group. The Casa Wally shipyard in Forli, Italy, began dedicated construction of the wallytender and wallypower lines in 2021.
