Overview

About this vessel

Golondrina is one of the classic Concordia yawls designed by Hunt/Howland and beautifully built by Abeking and Rasmussen in Lemwerder, Germany. As indicated in Notes A and B below, she has been extensively upgraded by a particularly knowledgeable owner, and is well proven both cruising and in classic yacht races. The Concordia yawls have set the standard as highly regarded and popular classics and Golondrina is highly recommended. Golondrina has a brand new mainmast built by Rockport Marine. She is exceptional.

A GOLONDRINA has been systematically restored by her owner over the past 24 years. Being in the Caribbean between the early 1970s until she was relocated to Maine in 1991 meant that she did not go though the annual shrinking and swelling cycle that northern boats experience. As a result, her keel and floor timber bolts were found to be almost as good as new. GOLONDRINA received renewed covering board to sheer plank fastenings as well as a new deck covering and locust toe rails. The house top was renewed with new skylight, forward and rebuilt companionway hatches. The house sides have been veneered with 6mm Mahogany. The cockpit was rebuilt using the same geometry but with the seat hatches now opening down to the bilge for more accessible and larger storage. A new 34-gallon fuel tank was placed under the cockpit sole. South American Mahogany coaming and bulkheads and teak seats are new. About 2/3 of the underwater planking has been replaced with South American mahogany. Almost all of the butts have been scarfed out. Nearly all the floor timbers have been replaced as has been the horn timber and the gripe. A truss rod was installed under the mast step. The bottom was wooded in '/'15. GOLONDRINA S entire restoration chronology is available on request.

GOLONDRINA sailed all through the Caribbean with her previous owners in the 1970s and 1980s until she was sailed to Maine in 1991. Since her restoration, she has returned to the Caribbean twice, 1998/1999 and 2002/2003 where she competed in a number of classic boat races including Foxy's and Antigua Classic where she placed in the top three in class both times. She has been a regular competitor in the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta collecting two firsts and a second in class. GOLONDRINA has also taken awards at the Antigua Classic Concours d Elegance twice, second place, owner maintained in 1999, and a special trophy for her restoration in 2003. She was named best sailboat at the St. Lucie, Florida, Classic Boat Show, Best Boat in original Condition and won the Peoples Award at the Salem Antique and Classic Show.
