Overview
About this vessel
This OPUS34 sailing yacht was designed and built in Denmark and has been in the current owner's hands for 22 years. From the outset, the owner resolved that should circumstances permit, it would be used for long-distance sailing. After sailing in northern waters, in 2013 the decision was made to sail to New Zealand. Two years of preparation followed, fitting the boat with all necessary equipment. This preparation included a voyage from Denmark to the northeast of Greenland, named the "Test of Man and Mast," during which the owner tested himself, the crew, and the boat. All went well.
In July 2015, the owner departed Copenhagen with New Zealand as the waypoint. After crossing half the globe with a crew of 32 sailing in shifts of three, they successfully reached New Zealand. The owner has logged approximately 40,000 nautical miles in her.
In recent years, the mahogany and maple cabin floor and all teak on deck and cabin top have been replaced. All above-water paint has been professionally applied in the original colours, which are echoed in the new fabrics below deck. Extra water and diesel tanks and all equipment needed for blue water sailing have been installed, including complete navigation Furuno electronics and a high quality Aries windvane. Recently, a new life raft and new toilet were fitted. The boat is well maintained.
The owner named her TARANGA, after a legend of a Polynesian mother and her son, representing a lifelong dream to sail to The South Pacific Islands. TARANGA has provided excellent care to the owner and crew, and will do the same for the new owner.
