Overview
About this vessel
1974 Custom Hardtop Dyer 29 Sportfisher. After three years of closure, the local ocean salmon season reopens this June - and this customized Dyer 29 was purpose-built for exactly these waters.
Originally owned and operated by the former owner of Western Sport Shop in San Rafael, one of Marin County's most respected fishing, fly-fishing, and hunting outfitters for more than 50 years, this boat has spent decades successfully fishing the Marin coastline from Point Reyes to Pedro Point and out to the Farallon Islands for salmon, halibut, and Dungeness crab.
This is not a generic production sportfisher. This is a proven Northern California offshore fishing platform with authentic local pedigree.
Freshly Serviced & Truly Turn-Key
The seller has recently completed substantial maintenance and preparation so the next owner can step aboard and fish immediately for the June opener.
Recent professional service includes: fresh bottom scraping and bottom paint, zinc replacement, full diesel engine maintenance, systems inspection and servicing, electronics, pumps, and lighting checked, and general detailing and preparation. All items identified during the most recent marine survey have been addressed and repaired. Recent service invoices available.
Legendary Dyer Hull - Built for Offshore Confidence
Originally crafted by Dyer in Rhode Island, these iconic Down East hulls are legendary for exceptional seaworthiness, stable offshore ride, heavy-duty fiberglass construction, excellent trolling characteristics, and long-range ocean capability.
The semi-displacement hull provides a remarkably stable and confidence-inspiring ride in Pacific swell while remaining comfortable in Bay and Delta waters.
Custom Pacific Northwest Modifications
This vessel was thoughtfully upgraded over the years specifically for colder and rougher Northern California conditions. The wide, low-slung stern creates exceptional 180-degree fishability and comfortably accommodates 3 - 5 anglers trolling, drifting, or crabbing.
Proven Diesel Power
Yanmar 315 HP Turbo Diesel with approximately 1,800 hours. Experienced diesel owners know 1,800 hours on a Yammer is barely broken in. The lighter and faster Yammer diesel was installed in 2007 and delivers an ideal combination of reliability, fuel efficiency, offshore performance, and long service life.
Performance: Cruise approximately 15.5 kph @ 3000 RPM; Top speed approximately 19.5 kph @ 3700 RPM. The seller notes: "It will overtake many boats on the ocean that passed it in the Bay."
Fully Equipped for Salmon, Halibut & Crab
The vessel is equipped with two Scotty electric downriggers with swivel bases, five heavy-duty commercial rod holders, a Brutus Pacific Pro electric crab puller, removable vertical bait tank, and wooden fish-cleaning station. Navigation and electronics include a Koden MDC-900A Radar, Furuno FCV-585 Fishfinder, Garmin GPSMAP 541, Standard Horizon VHF, backup fishfinder/depth sounder, and Contest compass. Additional included gear encompasses an anchor with 200+ ft line and mooring buoy, dock lines and fenders, safety equipment, foldable deck chairs with new cushions, and miscellaneous boating gear.
