Western Isles Explorer Yacht
Overview
About this vessel
Built by Ishikawajima (now Ishikawajima Heavy Industries Co), Japan s first and foremost modern shipyard (est. 1853), Western Isles was launched as R/V Shumpu Maru in 1974. Commissioned as an Oceanographic and Meteorological research vessel, she sailed the North West Pacific for over 26 years, before being decommissioned in 2001. Three years and a sizeable refit later, which included a brand new aluminium superstructure, multiple guest cabins and a superlative flybridge, she was relauched as an explorer yacht in 2004. With 6 en suite guest cabins, multiple entertainment spaces, indoors and outdoors, and 8,000 nautical miles autonomy, Western Isles is waiting for its next adventure.
