Overview
About this vessel
“Cohort II” is a rugged and capable world cruising vessel. Semi-custom built by Mason in the 1970s, she was designed as a true bluewater yacht, ideally suited for long-distance passage-making. She features self-tailing winches, electric windlass, full furling sails, solar, AC, and essential cruising systems. “Cohort II” is seriously for sale and offers a rare opportunity to acquire a fully-equipped, proven, and continuously upgraded offshore yacht.
“Cohort II” is hull #31 of approximately 40 yachts built under the direction of Robert Vaughn in Miami during the 1970s. The hull is heavily hand-laid fiberglass with a full keel and cutaway forefoot. Deck and rig design were based on Adriatic Yachts’ plans (Alpha 48) from Pompano Beach, FL. The original build quality was exceptional, and the vessel has benefited from continuous upgrades since her 2010 purchase by the current owner. Major refit work occurred between 2010–2015, with ongoing improvements through 2020+. Only lightly sailed in Florida and the Gulf of Mexico, this boat is ready for offshore adventures.
Painted with Awlgrip (hull) and Imron (deck) in 2012. Foam core insulation with solid fiberglass at hardware points. Non-skid: Tan truck bed liner – extremely durable. Thru-hulls and ball valves replaced with Marlon fittings (2012/13).
Main mast removed and repainted (2017). Full replacement of standing rigging and turnbuckles by Yacht Rigger (Tampa). Stainless sta-lok turnbuckles. New custom aluminum mast step (2017). Genoa, Staysail, and Main furlers replaced with Harken furlers (2014). Original Mizzen furler remains. Rigging is in excellent condition – only a few years old.
Perkins 6-354 Diesel | 120 HP | Approx. 8,500 hours. Originally rated for 90 HP, upgraded for extra thrust and control. Major top-end rebuild and all key external components replaced (2011–2017). Hoses (fuel, water, exhaust) replaced 2010–2014. Runs strong with cruising speed of 7+ knots at 1600 RPM. Excellent balance – engine centered in vessel. Low-RPM diesel design: 15,000 hours expected lifespan with proper care.
