Morgan 46 Ketch
Overview
About this vessel
The 1979 Morgan 462 Ketch Sailboat is a classic example of robust and versatile cruising design from the late 20th century. Known for its strong build and spacious interior, this model features a sturdy fiberglass hull and a traditional ketch rig that provides excellent balance and ease of handling, particularly in varied wind conditions. The interior layout is designed for extended voyages, offering comfortable accommodations with a well-appointed galley, generous living space, and ample storage. The Morgan 46 is celebrated for its seaworthiness and has remained a popular choice among sailors who appreciate its blend of performance and comfort.
The owner purchased this boat in 1981 when it was 18 months old and initially kept it at Toledo Beach Marina in southern Michigan, sailing Lake Erie. Between 1981 and 1989, the owner sailed Lake Erie, Lake Huron, and the Canadian North Channel. In April 1989, a circumnavigation began via the Panama Canal and the Suez Canal, touching a couple dozen countries, with the boat arriving back in Michigan in July 1991. Since then it has been cruised out of Cheboygan, Michigan in Lake Huron.
The owner has maintained and upgraded the vessel extensively over 43 years. Solar panels were added in 1984, and the upper shrouds were doubled with an additional forestay installed. In 2016, all electronics were replaced, including the auto pilot, radar, depth sounder, entertainment center, and VHF radio, along with the addition of the latest Garmin chartplotter. A deck washer pump was added recently, as was a propane leak detector system. Sails and canvas work have been replaced as needed throughout the vessel's tenure.
