Spencer 53

This Spencer 53 (extended 55) masthead sloop is a spacious, family-friendly bluewater cruiser lying in Pittwater, Sydney. She is an excellent starting point for cruising Australia or heading out to the Pacific.

Hygge II has been cruising safely and comfortably by her previous and current owners and their families, and she is ready to go again. She is impressively rigged to sail single handed. A ton of money has been spent on her in recent years: new standing rigging in 2018, chainplates, and electric halyard winches so you do not have to leave the fully enclosed canvas cockpit to raise the sails. The hull was peeled and epoxy barrier applied by a reputable yard circa 2016. A genset, diesel heater and more have been installed. The bottom was completely stripped and an epoxy barrier coat applied. All the portlights in the entire vessel were also replaced in the last seven years.

She has a good amount of deck space to work with. The extension the original owner had built some years ago is a fantastic add-on, making boarding from a dinghy a breeze, or getting off the back with dive gear. It also makes it easy to climb back aboard after a swim, snorkel or dive. Lots of the deck gear is custom-built stainless and very heavy duty, just what a world cruiser needs.

The interior is gorgeous teak and well laid out with full headroom throughout. The owner had the aft stateroom area remodelled some years ago with really nice joinery. The aft or owner's stateroom includes a private salon area with the nav station, settee and desk, and an ensuite.

There is a single berth midships alongside the engine room, which would be a great berth for a child. Up forward, the V-berth is quite large and also has a full head and shower, which doubles as the day head for other guests. The salon is spacious, and the galley is to port, making entertaining a breeze with the chef not being separate from the guests. A large custom salon table wraps around the mast and has a centre locker for storage, making for a very family-friendly cruising option.

The midship berth has been set up as a workshop with new toolboxes. The galley has a microwave, 2 x fridge/freezers and a 4 burner stove and oven.

The engine room is large and comfortable, accommodating people well over six feet tall, with everything located in a way that makes maintenance a breeze. Everything is well kept, in good, clean, running condition.
