History of the 1982 C&C 37 Sailboat The C&C 37, produced by C&C Yachts, a renowned Canadian sailboat manufacturer, was introduced in the early 1980s, with the 1982 model marking the final production year under the direct supervision of co-founder George Cuthbertson. C&C Yachts, formed in 1969 through a collaboration between Belleville Marine Yard, Hinterhoeller Ltd., Bruckmann Manufacturing, and the design firm Cuthbertson & Cassian, gained a reputation for building high-quality, performance-oriented fiberglass sailboats that excelled in both racing and cruising. The C&C 37 is a prime example of their racer-cruiser philosophy, blending sleek design with practical cruising amenities. The 1982 C&C 37, often referred to as the C&C 37/40 due to its 37-foot length overall (LOA) and 40-foot length on deck with bowsprit, was one of the last models produced before Cuthbertson 27s departure from the company in 1982. It was designed to balance performance and comfort, featuring a fine entry, modest beam, deep lead fin keel, and balanced rudder, making it a capable coastal cruiser and competitive racer. The boat 27s construction emphasized durability, with a fiberglass hull and balsa-cored deck, a hallmark of C&C 27s lightweight yet rigid engineering. The C&C 37 was celebrated for its Canadian build quality and was considered a pinnacle of the company 27s cruiser designs during the 1970s and 1980s. Historically the C&C 37 remains a popular model, with over 100 units built during its production run. Its reputation for quality and performance has ensured that well-maintained examples remain sought after in the used boat market today.
