With exceptional sailing performance, true bluewater pedigree, and striking aesthetics, "Dr Who" is a yacht that commands attention in every harbour she enters. Designed by renowned New Zealand naval architect Laurie Davidson, she perfectly balances performance and practicality in a package that excels both on the racecourse and for comfortable cruising. "Dr Who" also boasts an enviable race history including 5 top 10 finishes in the Sydney to Hobart Race, and was the overall winner in 1990 including taking the record for best corrected time across all handicaps. The vessel has since been a regular competitor in the Hobart racing scene, and well known as a top IRC performer both inshore and offshore (Current IRC Rating 1.131!). Originally built for a Double Handed Transpac Race, this vessel would also make a serious contender for the growing double handed racing scene. Stepping inside, the interior simply gleams with rich gloss varnished timber beautifully paired with clean white finishes to create and light and welcoming ambience. The generous saloon features a large dinette, with seating for 12 in comfort on the neatly upholstered settees. The accommodation is ideal for anything from comfortable cruising with family and friends, through to the full race crew. Forward is the spacious master suite with a large double v-berth, seating, and full ensuite with toilet and vanity. Aft are two private double cabins, with a second bathroom to port. The saloon provides four single berths when additional accommodation is required. The well appointed U shaped galley is to starboard and features a large top loading fridge and freezer (with a NEW compressor), two burner stove with oven (with NEW gas lines and regulator), stainless steel sink with fresh water, and ample storage space. The package is complete with a traditional chart table with the NEW chart plotter and VHF Radio.
On deck, the vessel is well set up to be easily managed both short handed or with a full race crew. Both the primary winches, backstay, and mainsheet are easily accessible from helm position, with all other lines coming to the cabin top. This vessel has an excellent sail inventory including the NEW 2025 Doyles Offshore Mainsail, 2018 Doyles Carbon Stratus No. 1 and No. 3 Headsails, and all deck equipment is in excellent condition. There is good access forward around the wide side decks, and a NEW Muir electric anchor winch on the bow for easy anchoring.
The vessel is powered by a well maintained and reliable 48HP Bukh diesel engine. Both the gearbox and saildrive were professionally reconditioned in 2023, and it presents in excellent condition. This provides easy and comfortable cruising at 6 knots.
