Overview
About this vessel
Built in 1983 in Glenfield, Auckland, by John Rae and project managed by Stewart 34 class stalwart Ken Allen, Pendragon was the only Stewart 34 built by this famous boat builder, and is unique in the pantheon of this famous class.
Her quality and finish are truly unique, and she was launched weighing right on the class limit. Still owned by the family who commissioned her, the time has come to pass Pendragon on to new custodians.
Built of three layer Kauri and then Dynel sheathed, and built with the West System ensuring a minimum long term weight gain, she requires minimal maintenance. Her gorgeous interior belies her cheeky turn of speed. The Stewart 34 class was decades ahead of the rest of the world in terms of design and construction, and there is a very good case to be made that Pendragon is the best example ever built. John Rae's expertise is all through this boat, and the care her owners have taken of her is very evident.
With recently renovated teak decks and serviced engine, Pendragon is a perfect twilighter or cruiser with space and a finish below that is astounding for a boat of her size.
From launch Pendragon dominated the Stewart 34 class in Auckland, before being shipped to Australia by her owner. From the Stewart 34 Website, the ultra-light flyer Pendragon would prove to be the lightest and fastest Stewart 34 ever built.
Later in her career Pendragon was the overall IRC Winner of the Sydney Gold Coast Race in 2005 after coming second overall in 2004. Not bad for a 34 footer.
Pendragon could still be a weapon offshore if that's your cup of tea, and a number of Stewart 34s are successfully raced short handed in New Zealand. The Kauri interior of Pendragon is wonderful. Large and airy with full standing headroom, every surface gleams, and she is a testament to the boatbuilder's skill. Her joinery is second to none. The saloon has a generous C shaped sofa with a large removable table and her ensuite head belies her 34 feet. As well as a vee berth there are two single pilot berths either side of the companionway, an oversized fridge/chart table and a comfortable L shaped galley with a gas stove and oven. A family could happily spend a week away on her.
Pendragon is an absolute glamour and will continue to turn heads for at least another 40 years.
