Herreshoff Alerion 26
Overview
About this vessel
HOPE is one of just twelve Alerion 26's built 1 an exceptionally limited series conceived by Halsey Herreshoff and constructed at the Herreshoff Marine Museum, on the historic grounds of the original Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. This setting is widely regarded as the birthplace of some of the most influential American yacht designs, adding a layer of provenance that few modern builds can match.
The design traces directly back to Nathanael Herreshoff, who created the original Alerion as his personal day-sailor, the boat has long been valued for its balance, elegance, and ease of handling. In this modern interpretation, Halsey Herreshoff carefully evolved his grandfather's concept, preserving the timeless aesthetic while enhancing functionality. Notable updates include the addition of a practical cuddy cabin suitable for overnighting, a fixed keel for improved stability and sailing performance, and an inboard engine for reliability and convenience under power.
Each of the twelve boats in this series was thoughtfully crafted with a blend of traditional materials and modern construction techniques. HOPE features a hand-laid fiberglass hull and deck, complemented by finely finished Philippine mahogany cabin sides and trim, Bruynzeel mahogany plywood bulkheads, and classic teak cockpit grating and cabin sole. The result is a rare combination of heritage craftsmanship and usable comfort 1 making this limited series particularly sought after among collectors and discerning sailors alike.
