Overview
About this vessel
LAZY BONES is a substantial and well-appointed Irwin 54 cutter-rigged cruising yacht, designed for serious bluewater passagemaking combined with liveaboard comfort.
Constructed in solid and cored GRP, she features a raked bow with bow platform, shoal draft fin keel, skeg-hung rudder, and a distinctive wineglass transom with an electrically controlled, flush fold-down swim platform. Auxiliary power is provided by a 140HP Yanmar turbo diesel. She carries an impressive 2,080 litres of fuel and 870 litres of fresh water, giving her exceptional cruising range and autonomy.
The mainsail furls neatly into the boom, and she is cutter-rigged with both Harken and Profurl furling systems.
On Deck
Forward, the bow platform incorporates dual anchor rollers, electric anchor windlass, and foredeck hatch. The cabin trunk features eight Lewmar deck hatches, two dorade vents, two 600ft reels of line, six-person inflatable life raft in cradle, and fixed cabin trunk windows.
The cockpit is spacious and secure, with port and starboard weather deck access and built-in bench seating aft. The moulded helm pedestal carries a teak and stainless wheel and a comprehensive suite of navigation and communication electronics. Controls for the anchor windlass, bow thruster, and engine are all conveniently located at the helm. A folding-leaf cockpit table extends forward of the pedestal.
Protection is excellent thanks to a custom fibreglass hardtop with Strataglass enclosure. Solar capacity is substantial, with a 12V two-panel array mounted above the hardtop and a further 48V three-panel array aft.
The aft deck includes custom fibreglass storage benches, rail-mounted transom bench seat, two Lewmar deck hatches, below-deck lazarette, and stainless steel dinghy davits. An electric bow thruster enhances close-quarters handling.
Accommodation & Interior
Below decks, LAZY BONES offers generous volume and practical cruising comfort. Forward is a V-berth guest cabin, followed by an enclosed head with separate stall shower to port and a crew cabin with stacked longitudinal berths to starboard.
The main saloon is light and inviting, arranged with opposing L-shaped settees. The starboard settee features a teak pedestal table with folding leaves. The navigation station is positioned aft to port and houses the vessel's navigation electronics along with main AC and DC electrical panels. Opposite is an aft-facing breakfast bar overlooking the galley.
The large U-shaped galley to starboard is exceptionally well equipped, with a dual-drawer refrigerator, separate freezer drawer, three-burner LPG stove with oven, Corian benchtops, and double porcelain under-counter sink. Opposite is a generous pantry area featuring a microwave, air fryer, bake oven, and stacked washer and dryer.
Aft, the master cabin offers a centreline fore-and-aft queen berth with extensive built-in teak cabinetry and drawers. The master includes a private ensuite with separate stall shower and tub.
Construction
The hull, decks and superstructure are constructed of solid and cored fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) using multiple layers of fibreglass mat, woven roving and polyester resin. Internal structural components include fibreglass-skinned wood and foam-cored bulkheads, frames and stringers, creating a strong and proven offshore platform.
Recent Improvements – 2023
Standing rigging completely replaced in Fiji. New solar panel arrays, new satellite dish, and new LiFePO4 battery bank with new 220V inverter installed. New life raft, new EPIRB battery, new refrigerator, new ice maker, new upholstery, and new washer/dryer unit.
