About this vessel
Antaeus is a beautifully maintained, high-performance sloop designed by the legendary New Zealand naval architect Laurie Davidson. Built to ABS standards by renowned craftsman Tony Ruiterman and launched in 1992, she blends timeless design with modern systems, offering exceptional capability for both competitive racing and extended offshore cruising.
This powerful cruiser-racer features a lifting bulb keel, reducing draft from 4.0m to 2.7m even under sail. Her bow thruster ensures stress-free docking, while electric winches and fully integrated cockpit controls make her ideal for short-handed sailing.
A significant refit in 2006 transformed Antaeus with the addition of roller furling headsails, a Leisure Furl mainsail, and a suite of comfort and performance upgrades. Since then, she has been well maintained and further upgraded, including new standing and running rigging, a full repaint, and refreshed interior finishes.
The interior is warm and inviting, with hand-moulded Rimu cabinetry, leather upholstery, and generous accommodation for up to 10. She features two separate staterooms as well space for four in the after area just forward of the cockpit, two bathrooms, and a well-equipped galley—offering both elegance and practicality at sea.
Powered by a reliable and regularly serviced 112hp Cummins diesel engine, Antaeus cruises comfortably at 9 knots. She comes complete with a 3.5m True Kit tender and 2hp outboard, along with a comprehensive inventory of tools, spares, and safety equipment including a liferaft for 10 people.
Under sail, Antaeus performs brilliantly—cruising upwind at 9 knots and capable of exceeding 20 knots downwind, making her equally suited to passage-making and race podiums.
