1993 Prout Cat-Sail for sale in NEWPORT, New South Wales
Overview
About this vessel
Prout catamarans are legendary, UK-built bluewater cruising cats renowned for their safe handling, canoe-stern designs, and robust build quality. Featuring a mast set well aft and a cutter rig, they are incredibly easy to sail short-handed.
Designed by the Prout brothers, Prout Cat-Sail features a cutter-rig with the mast positioned well aft, a smaller mainsail, and a self-tacking staysail, self-furling genoa. Famous for its ruggedness and comfortable motion in heavy seas, Prout Cat-Sail is widely considered one of the most successful and affordable offshore cruising catamarans ever built.
Propulsion Note
STRAY CAT is fitted with a Yanmar inboard engine; however, it is working but currently not connected to a gearbox and is therefore not operational as a means of propulsion. It will suit as a means of charging/generator for batteries etc. and heating of hot water service. There is ample solar on the stainless steel aft bimini frame for general charging that also supports davits for an inflatable. A Mercury 3.3hp outboard is included to suit a tender but there is no dinghy included. A suitable long shaft outboard motor mounted to a drop-down bracket will be required for any sort of auxiliary propulsion, including docking and manoeuvring under power. This could be as cheap as a long shaft 9.9hp hi thrust engine and auxiliary 20 litre fuel tank to keep it simple and have a brand new engine for reliability.
This arrangement may suit buyers intending to use the vessel primarily for sailing and who are comfortable relying on an outboard for auxiliary propulsion. Prospective purchasers should factor in the installation and operation of a suitable outboard motor when considering this vessel.
