Renewed and refreshed in 2022, FREEDOM is a beautiful example of the David Pedrick designed cruiser from the well-respected New England builder Freedom Yachts. The exterior and interior layouts of the Freedom 35 are among the best available in this size and class. Comfortable and easy to use, these boats make sailing relaxing and fun.
With no standing rigging to maintain and little need to leave your seat to tend sail, this vessel offers comfort in the cockpit, an easy to use sail plan and spacious accommodations down below. If you seek an exceptional performer designed for short-handed sailing that offers sleeping for six, then FREEDOM is the right boat for you.
The mast is the free-standing, carbon fiber spar for which Freedom Yachts is so well known. The main is fully battened and has two built in reefs which are fully set from the safety of the cockpit. The jib has the standard Camberspar for easy self-tacking and self tending and this will wing out automatically on a run. Sail cover for the main is recent and is integrated to the sail. There is a rigid boom vang for extra control and safety and lazy jacks control the sail and sail cover when it's lowered. All sail controls are lead to the cockpit through clutch style deck stoppers and all sail handling can be managed from the cockpit on a two speed electric winch.
Spacious, well-ventilated and well-lit open layout with ample storage that sleeps 6. The aft master cabin features a queen size berth running athwartship, while the forward cabin has a V-berth. Both staterooms include generous hanging lockers and shelved cabinets. The main salon features an "L" settee with double berth pullout. The head is aft with a stall shower, marine head with holding tank and overboard discharge. The galley is aft with a gimbaled propane stove/oven/broiler, refrigerator/freezer, and two-basin stainless steel sink. Twin dorade ventilation serves the salon and cabins with Hella fans. A large drop-leaf dinette folding table with bulkhead-mounted TV completes the saloon. Warm cherry wood is featured throughout.
The hull is flag blue with double white boot stripes and a white cove stripe. The deck is white gel coat with contrasting ivory color non-skid, for a clean traditional look. The deck is clean and easy to maintain with no teak beyond the step on the swim platform with the walk-through transom to the cockpit. All lines lead to the cockpit for self-tacking jib operation—tacking does not require any line handling, just turn the wheel to the new course. Stainless steel dorade vents add fresh air to the cabin. Portlights, stanchions, grab rails, bow and stern rails, and cowl vents are all 316 grade quality stainless. Stanchions and double lifelines are higher than industry standard for added safety. Boarding gates to port and starboard.
The galley features a Force 10 two-burner stainless steel propane stove with oven and broiler, a double-basin polished stainless steel sink, and a two-section ice box with Adler Barbour refrigerator/freezer. Galley cabinets provide dry goods storage.
The vessel is equipped with a Flojet pressure water pump providing hot and cold pressure water, with hot water runs from engine and shore power. Grohe fixtures are installed in the head for sink and shower. The water tank is polyethylene with electric and manual bilge pumps. A manual marine toilet includes a Y-valve for overboard toilet discharge.
Freedom Yachts was the maker of the Freedom (sail) and Legacy (power) yacht brands. The Freedom sailboats have unstayed rigs, meaning that the mast is freestanding and not supported by the normal set of wires called standing rigging. Garry Hoyt, a champion sailor and noted maverick, created the unstayed rigs to give "freedom" from the inefficient sail shapes of traditional sloop rigs as well as to give "freedom" from the compression and maintenance issues associated with standing rigging.
