VERISSIMO | Alden Custom | 63ft
Overview
About this vessel
Introduction
VERISSIMO is a custom-built Alden 63 designed by the offices of John G. Alden Naval Architects of Boston and built by a joint venture with Eric Goetz Custom Boats of Bristol, Rhode Island, producing the composite hull, deck and structure. Goetz built a light, strong hull and deck (seamless vacuum bagged biaxial E glass in epoxy resin over Baltec Contourkore). The interior structural bulkheads are constructed with Nomex panels for weight savings. The boat was then shipped to Derecktor Shipyards of Mamaroneck, New York who, with their decades of experience, fitted her out with systems, machinery and joinery. She was launched in 1998.
VERISSIMO has the appearance of a traditional yacht with her beautiful lines and fine exterior detailing, yet she also has very good sailing characteristics thanks to her powerful sail plan, moderate draft keel, slippery hull form and deep spade rudder. Her race record has proven that with several top finishes in offshore races under ORR, local PHRF races and classic yacht "Spirit of Tradition" events under the CYOA rule. She is truly a joy to sail - surprisingly fast in light winds and stable, sea-kindly in higher wind ranges and rough conditions. Sail trim changes are easily made thanks to modern wireless and helm control systems only seen on much larger yachts.
VERISSIMO is also a very comfortable cruising yacht with a beautifully appointed interior, three spacious cabins and an extensive list of equipment to support extended time aboard.
Owner Remarks
The current owner purchased VERISSIMO in 2012 and has made many great memories both cruising and racing, including a class victory in the 2016 Newport to Bermuda Race, multiple victories in the Camden Classic with a 2023 overall win, two overall wins and class wins in Jamestown's Around The Island race, and a class win in the 2017 Marblehead to Halifax Race.
Summers have been spent cruising southern New England to Maine and winters in the Caribbean with friends, family and grandchildren. During ownership, VERISSIMO has been properly maintained and upgraded. The 2021 addition of pushbutton or remote-control adjustments of the vang, traveler, outhaul, backstay and mainsheet have improved ease of sail trim and boat speed. VERISSIMO has had the same captain since 2015 and can be easily sailed by two people.
VERISSIMO (Italian for "True") is a beautiful, strong and fast yacht, built and maintained to a high standard.
Accommodations
The interior of VERISSIMO is beautifully crafted with fine cherry joinerwork including solid trim, custom detailing and teak and holly floorboards all with a satin finish. The entire overhead throughout the yacht was rebuilt in 2016 with laminated cherry deck beams and white tongue and groove panels. In 2018, both heads were updated to include new gloss varnished teak countertops, sinks and faucets.
Starting aft, there are twin guest staterooms to port and starboard of the main companionway, each with twin berths that can convert to a double. There is generous storage space including a large hanging locker and numerous drawers and lockers. Each cabin has a portlight, two opening portholes, deck prism and a deck hatch for great light and ventilation. The aft cabins share a common head and shower stall, located to starboard. Forward of the head to starboard is the comprehensively equipped navigation station, featuring a large chart table, curved seat with backrest, main switch panels and a complete array of navigation and communication instruments.
Forward to port is the large wraparound galley, designed to be functional and safe while at sea. There is an abundance of counterspace (all replaced 2013), with tremendous storage space all around. The inboard galley area on centerline doubles as the engine box, allowing easy access on all sides. The full beam main salon is light, warm and inviting with a U-shaped settee to port surrounding a beautiful custom inlaid table with fold-up leaves, and a centerline seat for additional guests. Cabinets and a bookshelf alcove are outboard. To starboard is a straight settee with a flat screen TV outboard, hidden by double locker fronts. There is a bureau forward with additional cabinets above each side of the TV locker.
Forward of the main salon is the spacious owner's stateroom, featuring a queen-size double berth to port with night table and cabinets outboard. To starboard there is a bureau and settee with large hanging locker outboard. Further forward is the en-suite head compartment with gloss teak counter, stainless sink, mirror, teak grate and a separate shower stall with a clear hinged door and a teak seat.
