Carver 40 Flybridge

Introduced in the 2000 model year, the 396 Motor Yacht was an overnight success. This aft cabin motor yacht has the aggressive styling of an express cruiser. As well, the 396 has changed the rules concerning aft cabin styling. The unique raised walkdeck design has allowed design changes that give the 396 a wider cabin - much roomier than one would expect. Adding to its appeal, the cabin living space has been combined into a spacious, open "great room" with plenty of salon seating and space for all sorts of extra amenities, like an end table, TV and VCR. Two luxurious staterooms and two head compartments provide welcome privacy, with the forward head compartment providing separate head and shower compartments.

The vessel is equipped with AC/DC distribution panels with magnetic circuit breakers and integral bilge blower controls, AC voltmeter, AC ammeter, 4 deep cycle marine batteries (12V), 2 electronic battery chargers AC-DC converters, external connectors for CATV and telephone, GFCI protection on all 110V outlets, 50 amp shore power connector and 50 ft shore power cord, and wiring system with tinned copper strand wire, harnessed, color-coded, labeled, meeting or exceeding ABYC standards.

The galley includes a GFCI protected 110V outlet, coffee maker, designer decor, wood plank flooring, brass/chrome hardware highlights, 2 halogen overhead recessed lights, built-in microwave/convection oven, electric three-burner ceran top range, upright refrigerator/freezer, rocker light switches, stainless steel sink with solid surface cover, solid surface countertops, storage under sink, storage drawers, and storage cabinets.

Mechanical features include zinc sacrificial anodes, battery master disconnect switches, battery restraint brackets, 12V bilge blowers, 3 bilge pumps each 1500 gph with automatic/manual operation, brass valves for all underwater thru-hulls, CO detectors in salon and staterooms, illuminated compass, engine alarms for temperature and oil pressure, automatic FE241 (FM200 in European Community) fire suppression system, galvanic isolator/zinc saver, 12V air/electric trumpet horn, internal bonding system, molded nonskid diamond pattern surfaces on all walk decks, and COLREGS navigation lights.

Engines are Volvo 7.4Gi (2) with dripless shaft logs, engine exhaust mufflers, welded baffled 5052 aluminum fuel tanks, hydraulic steering, propellers, aquamet propeller shafts, 421 manganese bronze rudders, synthetic rubber composite cutlass bearings, 421 manganese bronze struts, and stainless steel hydraulic trim tabs.

Construction features solid fiberglass hull bottoms with Knytex substrates and Vinylester barrier coat, hand-laid molded fiberglass components with composite laminate hullsides, decks, and cabintops, molded fiberglass stringer system, reinforced stringer structural engine mountings with gusseted angle steel plates, fabricated aluminum floor frames with stainless steel stanchions, cherry wood bulkheads cabinetry and trim throughout cabin with high gloss finish, tinted tempered safety glass frameless window systems, and unitized deck and cabintop construction with integral aluminum truss reinforcement in cabintop structure.

The aft deck is approximately 73 ft2 integral to deck and self-draining, with 2 ten-inch stainless steel cleats through-bolted through aluminum backing plates inboard-mounted with stainless steel hawse pipes, integral command bridge stairway with stainless steel hand rail, custom aluminum electronics arch with acrylic polyurethane surface coating and UV protection, 5 corrosion-resistant polymer electronics arch access plates attached with noncorroding screws and waterproof sealant, 25" stainless steel grab rail across lockers, 1.0" OD stainless steel hand rail around entire aft deck, hardtop over entire aft deck, 4 recessed courtesy lights with exterior-mounted switch, 2 recessed overhead lights with exterior-mounted switch, 2 double door lockers with interior stainless steel restraining rail, stereo speakers (2), aluminum transom door with stainless steel hardware and 22" grab rail across top, 2 wing doors secure open and closed with acrylic in aluminum frame and stainless steel hardware providing access to side decks.

Side decks feature 1.0" O.D. lineal-buffed welded stainless steel bow rail with additional intermediate rail amidships and forward, double-welded stainless steel bow rail stanchions anchored to aluminum backing plates laminated into deck, 4 ten-inch spring stainless steel cleats through-bolted through aluminum backing plates, deck toe rail, stainless steel grab rail over cabin windows running length of cabin and above windshields, and heavy-duty rub rail molding with stainless steel insert.

Fore deck includes 2 ten-inch stainless steel cleats through-bolted through aluminum backing plates, 10" stainless steel cleat for anchor line through-bolted through aluminum backing plate, in-deck self-draining locker for fender storage and anchor chain, and over-the-stem anchor roller.
