About this vessel
TAMSEN is the product of a multi-generational ownership philosophy that began in 1973, when seven California families, inspired by clinical psychologist and artist Robert Firestone, purchased an unfinished schooner named Vltava. The intent was to create a seafaring platform that encouraged accountability, capability, and stronger family bonds. That commitment culminated in a 1976 circumnavigation with 11 teenagers serving as crew, establishing a culture that would endure for decades.
Under the name Firestone Family and Friends, the group continued building yachts centered on shared experience and active participation, ultimately commissioning TAMSEN in 2007. When Perini Navi naval architect Franco Romani met with the yacht's 15 owners in late 2004, he found a single, aligned vision. The result is a ketch defined by a classic profile and expansive gathering areas that support connection while still allowing separation when desired. Throughout her life, TAMSEN has benefited from engaged, collaborative ownership.
