Noosa Marine G. Schionning
Overview
About this vessel
One owner, superbly built by Noosa Marine in carbon and duracore, and weighing just 9.5 tons, Kato effortlessly does 16 + kts in 12 kts of wind so the often dreaded ocean crossings are fun and much safer as she can sail around storm fronts and "get there" faster. She is immensely strong, spacious and very comfortable.
Hulls below waterline are 2 layers carbon over duracore with the outer layer being S glass for impact resistance, topsides one layer over carbon/duracore composite. Inside one layer carbon skin. All furniture is carbon and foam composite bonded to hulls and floor for lightweight rigid construction and for safety there are eighteen watertight bulkheads below floor for immense strength.
Her eco friendly oceanvolt electric propulsion systems drive her at 7-8 kts infinitely with the generator running, with minimum environmental impact and minimum weight, and the high output regenerate mode kicks in at 10 kts +, which is almost always under sail.
Her 23 M Southern Spars carbon mast and North carbon sails power her faster than wind speed under sail and the in-boom furling main powered by an Anderson electric winch at the mast makes reefing effortless. The headsail and screecher sheets and furler lines are easily managed single handed with the assistance of electric winches.
Steering is hydrive hydraulic with integrated Raymarine auto pilot system offering freedom to rest and relax under way.
Stepping aboard via the wide scoops aft leads to the spacious cockpit with a U-shaped settee and two carbon tables, a day lounge, and a unique kite board and paddle board storage space aft of the lounge.
There is a U-shaped galley up to port on the bridge deck, equipped with top loading fridges and freezers as well as two drawer fridges, Corian bench tops, lots of storage cupboards, plenty of headroom, and opening hatches forward for ventilation at anchor.
The day lounge in the saloon and very comfortable settee to starboard with carbon table provide excellent relaxation space at anchor or under way.
There is a queen east west berth midships with ensuite aft in each hull, a single forward on the port side, and storage forward on the starboard side.
