Beneteau 40.1
Overview
About this vessel
Presenting Happy Ours, a 2022 Beneteau Oceanis 40.1, designed by Marc Lombard with interior styling by Nauta Design. This hull blends contemporary cruising comfort with performance sailing, offering interior volumes and cockpit space far beyond typical 40-foot yachts—so much so that the Oceanis 40.1 often "feels like a 45-foot cruiser." The design features a flared hull that remains stiff and efficient under sail, an expansive cockpit enhanced with teak decking and custom cushions, and Beneteau's signature fully opening transom swim platform—perfect for days at anchor or long coastal passages.
Happy Ours is one of the most livable and versatile 40-foot cruisers out there. Her thoughtful layout—featuring two cabins with a forward vanity, a dedicated utility/storage room, and an open saloon—makes her ideal for couples or small families who want both comfort and sailing capability. The teak cockpit and cushions elevate the onboard living experience, while her sail plan and twin wheels ensure easy, confident handling under a variety of conditions.
Accommodations
The vessel features 2 cabins: an owner's cabin forward with centerline double berth and full vanity, and an aft cabin with double berth. An aft captain berth to starboard offers twin-sized sleeping. A single head features dry-stall design, with the shower area isolated from the marine toilet; it has double doors and can be accessed from the salon or from the aft cabin. In place of a traditional third cabin, Happy Ours features an enclosed storage/utility room—ideal for provisioning, tools, gear, or systems equipment.
The bright, open interior showcases a white oak finish. A C-shaped galley to starboard offers abundant counter space and storage, with a double stainless steel sink to help preserve fresh water consumption. The galley includes a gimbaled propane 2-burner stove and oven with electric solenoid switch, and a 12-volt refrigerator with both top- and bottom-loading configurations. The large saloon features U-shaped seating and a table with modular layout for flexible living and sleeping arrangements. A chart table and navigation station at the companionway foot provides ample workspace. Multiple hull ports and overhead hatches provide ventilation and natural light throughout.
Mechanical & Electrical
The vessel is powered by a Yanmar 4JH45 diesel engine with shaft drive and bronze 3-blade propeller. A Sleipner bow thruster is installed. Dual-zone air conditioning with reverse cycle heat is present, along with a pressurized freshwater system with expansion tank and inline filter. Hot water heating, electric shower sump pumps, and both electric and manual bilge pumps complete the mechanical suite.
Electrical systems include 50A shore power inlet with cord, a battery charging system, and LED interior and navigation lighting. A Panda 8000i generator is installed.
Electronics & Navigation
Navigation and electronics are well-appointed with a B&G suite comprising Zeus 3 chartplotters at each helm, GPS, depth and log sensors, and wind instrumentation. B&G autopilot with remote helm control and a B&G VHF with remote handset on charging base are installed. A Fusion stereo system provides audio in the cockpit and saloon.
Sails & Rigging
The vessel carries a deck-stepped aluminum mast with in-mast furling mainsail. With an air draft of 60' 2", the rig is Intracoastal-friendly. A self-tacking jib is standard with furling gear; the vessel is currently configured with a traditionally-sheeted genoa, but the self-tacking track is installed. Genoa fairleads can be adjusted from the cockpit. Spinnaker and Code 0 capability with optional bowsprit hardware is available. Rigging is led aft to the cockpit with rope clutches, organizers, and manual and electric winches. A Harken 2-speed electric winch is mounted on the coachroof, port side, with Harken manual, self-tailing primary winches completing the system. An emergency boarding ladder is fitted at the stern rail.
Hull & Deck
The hull is constructed of polyester fiberglass with structural inner molding bonded to the hull for stiffness. The deck features injected foam sandwich with non-skid surface. Twin rudders provide responsive helm and balanced control under heel. Both helm positions feature a folding bench and lifting floor panel that serves as a brace when heeling. A fold-down, powered transom becomes a spacious swim platform—a signature of the Oceanis 40.1 design. The cockpit table features folding leaves, a refrigerated compartment, and storage for a life raft. An integrated telescoping swim ladder and hot and cold freshwater shower near the swim transom complete the water-access features. Stainless steel bow fitting and roller, foredeck anchor locker, and Quick electric windlass are installed, along with stainless guardrails, stanchions, pulpits, pushpits, and coachroof handrails.
