Why a Trimaran is SAFER at Sea? When it comes to safety on the high seas, the width of NEEL trimarans plays a crucial role. This is because a wider vessel offers greater stability. Unlike catamarans, where the maximum righting moment occurs at 12° heeling, a trimaran reaches this point only at 27° heeling. This means that even in rough weather conditions, a trimaran is much more stable than a catamaran. Additionally, the weight distribution in a trimaran is more centered, which further contributes to its stability. In short, the design of a NEEL trimaran ensures that it provides a safer and more secure sailing experience.
Why a NEEL Trimaran is FASTER at sea? Trimarans are widely regarded as one of the fastest types of sailboats, outpacing both monohulls and catamarans. Their speed is especially noticeable when sailing upwind, thanks to their superior rig design. Unlike catamarans, which experience deformation due to the forestay pulling from the front beam, the mast compressing a central beam, and the shrouds pulling the two floats supporting the forestay and mast beam, trimarans have a structurally bonded forestay, mast, and mainsail tension to one strong, longitudinal beam - the main hull. This design allows for a rigid forestay and excellent upwind performance, similar to a monohull. Additionally, the centered weight distribution in trimarans further enhances their speed and stability, making them a safer option for sailors.
