Overview

About this vessel

The first Excess 13 has arrived in Australia and will be sold into 10 shares with the YachtShare fleet based at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in Manly, Queensland. This catamaran has won numerous prestigious awards, including Multicoques Magazine's Multihull of the Year 2025, Voile Magazine's Sailboat of the Year 2025, Sail Magazine's Best Boats of 2025, Cruising World's Boat of the Year 2026, and the 2026 European Yacht of the Year in the family cruiser category—notably the first catamaran to ever win this award in 23 years.

The Excess 13 is a sleek, dependable, lively sailboat. Ready for ocean passage-making, she is equipped for every way of loving the sea. She is designed to create intense experiences and unique memories. Her spaces have been optimized to facilitate life on board, increase storage space, lighten the structure and enhance sensations under sail. This uncompromising balance reveals a dynamic boat with unique potential, designed for sailors avidly seeking pleasure and freedom and taking on challenges.

A NEW TEAM OF ARCHITECTS AT THE HELM

This new model retains all the DNA of the range, created with VPLP and Patrick Le Quément aboard the first generation of Excess catamarans. With the architectural expertise of Marc Lombard YDG, the Excess Design Team is continuing to strengthen the development of the innovative and dynamic second generation of Excess catamarans.

"The project was simple yet ambitious: to create a catamaran that would evolve and be balanced, reliable and offer good sensations, all combined with the comfort and interior volume that have made Excess such a success. The form of the hulls, the weight, the composite structure, the interior layout, the ergonomics, the efficiency of the sail plan... Everything on this new Excess is designed around the pleasure of easy sailing and comfortable living on board." Eric Levet, Cabinet Lombard, naval architect of the new Excess 13

DESIGN: A FINER EXPRESSION OF THE BRAND'S DNA

The design of the Excess 13 picks up on the codes of previous models. Externally, the Excess teams have retained the lines of the hull and the shape of the windows and have worked around this base to present a new model in keeping with the DNA of the brand. For the interior design, Jean-Marc Piaton began with interviews to identify, understand and get into the spirit of the brand and give it substance.

"We listened to a good thirty people talk to us about the brand: employees, owners, dealers, charterers... What emerged was a very positive and, above all, highly identified perception. This is both very rare for such a young brand, and very interesting when considering its design. Hervé Piveteau had high expectations of lightness, both real and perceived, and wanted this new model to fit in well with the existing models, without creating too strong a break." Jean-Marc Piaton, Interior Designer for the new Excess 13

LESS IS MORE

The Less is more philosophy inspired the design of the Excess 13. The aim is to offer greater functionality and comfort on board, while limiting any negative impacts as well as the amount of materials used. This approach is in line with boaters' aspirations for greater simplicity and moderation. The result is lighter, yet sturdier boats that guarantee great sailing sensations.

"Less is more means a constant search for optimization. Aboard the Excess 13, for example, we have installed a rainwater recovery system on the coachroof, which is then stored in a tank. An efficient ventilation system limits the power demanded by the air conditioning unit. Cabin doors have a dual function, as both entrance door and closet door. When one is open, the other is closed. This may seem anecdotal, but with less material and more room for passing, it's the little details that, put together, make all the difference." Hervé Piveteau, Excess 13 Product Manager

MORE INTENSE SAILING

The Excess 13 is a cruising catamaran, a true sailboat capable of ocean passage-making. The boat's potential is felt as soon as you leave harbor, giving you a dizzying sense of freedom. The very direct helm allows you to feel the connection with the sea and fine-tune everything. Sensations are increased exponentially. The forward-facing chart table keeps you in touch with the elements and allows you to navigate with pinpoint accuracy.

Like her predecessor, the Excess 13 uses the principle of asymmetrical hulls. These are finer in beam below the waterline, guaranteeing excellent performance and easy gliding through the water, all while maintaining living space. The real innovations concern the structure, where all the designers' creativity has been devoted to lightening the boat's weight. The result is invisible, but you can feel it. More lightness. More harmony with the elements. More responsiveness. More thrills.

ON BOARD, OPTIMUM COMFORT

This new model features an interior saloon bathed in natural light and a fully equipped galley opening onto the cockpit, which connect the interior and exterior areas. The hull dedicated to the owners includes a spacious bedroom, a large forward bathroom and a dressing room—a rare feature on a boat of this size. An ergonomic workspace enables you to reconcile your professional life with your passion for the sea as never before. In the opposite hull, guests benefit from two bedrooms and two private bathrooms.

The real achievement of this Excess 13 is to have developed a structure that offers great accommodation, with plenty of living space, vast storage and full headroom, without compromising the boat's performance.

THE SEA AS YOUR PLAYGROUND

The Excess 13 offers answers to all the ways you love the sea. At anchor, she becomes an ideal platform for all nautical activities and the most daring challenges. The monohull-inspired access to the sea via fold-down sugarscoops combines safety and efficiency. Impressive, innovative exterior storage volumes allow you to carry a wide range of equipment for every adventure: diving and snorkeling for fans of the depths; wingfoiling or kitesurfing for adventurous watersports.
