About this vessel
38 South Yacht Sales is the exclusive Australian & New Zealand agent for the environmentally friendly Windelo eco-catamarans made in the south of France.
The Windelo 54 is a blue water cruising catamaran designed by architect duo Christophe Barreau and Fréderic Neuman. It is a bigger sister of the Windelo 50, environmentally-friendly, seaworthy, and designed for long-distance cruising. The catamaran was the winner of Multihull World's 'Premiere Category' award at the 2024 International Multihull Show.
One of the significant differences with the Windelo 54 is the length of the floats, which are nearly 120 cm longer than those of the Windelo 50; 60 cm of this extra space is around the nacelle, making life on board much more pleasant and comfortable. Lengthened hulls also contribute to greater performance and speed under sail while improving cruising comfort, particularly in rough seas. They also provide extra room in the living spaces, accommodations, and larger storage spaces.
In addition to the solar power, the large battery pack can easily be recharged under sail with the hydro generation, which means the Windelo 54 has an excellent cruising range.
The larger floats provide additional space also in the aft cabins: the owner's cabin and starboard aft cabin each offer 60 cm more storage space than the Windelo 50. The corner window is also bigger, offering a much more open sea view. The bows are nearly 40 cm longer, increasing the storage space or the skipper's fore cabin considerably, depending on your accommodation options. In the nacelle, the saloon and galley are also larger, increasing the comfort of these living areas.
All the spaces are fitted with generous openings to enjoy the panoramic sea view fully. Whatever layout you have chosen for the nacelle and the floats, the Windelo 54 will allow the creation of a skipper cabin.
The nacelle, a modular social space
The key to the layout was to create a friendly space that worked for everyone and involved everyone. The first essential step was to ensure that the helm station was an integral part of the layout. You can create a spacious unified area where the skipper steps out of isolation and integrates fully into the onboard social life by opening the sliding door between the forward cockpit and the galley. With the help of autopilot, you could easily cook and steer simultaneously. Crew who are relaxing in the saloon are readily available to lend a hand at a moment's notice.
There is a highly comfortable 115 x 200 cm pilot berth, situated in the main saloon within easy reach of the helm. There is a chart table at the foot of the forward cockpit in the saloon layout, which makes circulation on board easier. The saloon dining table expands to accommodate 6 to 12 people. You can also use an additional outside table for 6 to 12 people at anchor. Depending on the power output of your solar panels, the nacelle roof can be fitted with sun pads for sunbathing at anchor.
The Windelo 54 Adventure catamarans are semi-custom and can be adapted to suit your needs. Options such as trims, navigation instruments or equipment for life on board, as well as the fitting and layout of the indoor spaces can all be customized to match any sailor's expectations. Design teams will work with you to offer customized plans, paying close attention to weight studies and centering weight.
