Overview
The Sigma 36 is a signature David Thomas design evolved from the ever-successful 33 with the intention of providing more spacious accommodation whilst retaining the cruiser-racer ethos of the sigma's. The large double aft berth, extra beam and length ensure that the Sigma 36 can be cruised more extensively and today provides excellent value for money. This is a much-upgraded example of the Sigma 36 from 1984, benefiting from full new B&G electronics from 2020, new sprayhood, recent standing rigging, upgraded primary winches plus much more.
It features a GRP hull, deck and superstructure with a composite iron and lead ballast fin keel and spade rudder. The vessel is powered by a Volvo Penta MD2030 29HP inboard diesel engine which is annually serviced with several recent upgrades including a new alternator, exhaust elbow, and heat exchanger. The engine mounts and cutlass bearing were replaced in 2022, the glow plug relay in 2023, and it has a folding propeller, fuel tank sender and dial replaced in 2021.
Electrical systems include an Adverc intelligent battery system, Victron 12V charger, one engine battery and two new 130AH AGM domestic batteries added in 2023. Plumbing features an electric pumped water system fitted to the heads and a new stainless steel sink installed in 2022. The heads feature a Jabsco manual marine toilet with a 40-litre holding tank including diverter valve and new pipework installed in 2023. Warm air heating with ducting and a separate diesel tank was installed in 2021.
The rigging consists of a 7/8th single spreader fractional rig with aluminum Selden mast, boom, and spinnaker pole, new standing rigging from 2022, Furlex roller furling, Dyneema cascade backstay, single line reefing to first reef, and Lazy Jacks for the main. Sails include Ullman carbon mainsails, a fully battened cruising main with batten cars, a 135% furling genoa by Sanders from 2022, Ullman carbon no1 headsail, Ullman cruising no1 for roller reefing, multiple heavy weather sails including a new storm jib, and several spinnakers of different sizes.
The vessel has advanced navigation equipment including B&G NMEA 2000 backbone with new speed and depth transducers, Bluetooth wind and compass, B&G Zeus 2 plotter, two B&G multi-function displays, Simrad TP32 autopilot, Garmin 128 GPS, Vesper Marine WatchMate AIS transponder, VHF/AIS masthead aerial splitter, B&G WiFi module, ICS NAV4Navetx printer, Standard Horizon Eclipse DSC VHF, and a Bluetooth sound system with speakers.
Deck equipment features Lewmar Delta main anchor with chain and rode from 2023, kedge Bruce anchor including chain and rode, Lofrans Royal manual anchor winch (not yet fitted), stainless steel pulpit, pushpit, stanchions, new sprayhood canvas and frame from 2022 by Moatt sails Portland, mooring lines and fenders. Safety equipment includes a horseshoe life buoy, jack stays, gas safety certificate from 2020, gas detector and carbon monoxide alarm replaced in 2020.
Accommodation sleeps nine in two cabins plus saloon. The forward cabin has a double V-berth and storage cubbies. The heads include a Jabsco manual marine toilet with holding tank, sink with cold water, and storage. The large saloon has a table with fold-down leaves, bottle storage, and settees that convert to bunks plus two additional bunks outboard of saloon seating. The galley includes a stainless steel sink, cool box converted to fridge with compressor added in 2019, Plastimo twin burner gas cooker with oven and grill, and storage. The chart table features a Bluetooth sound system with speakers, a red LED chart light, and a quarter berth. The aft cabin has a double berth.
