During their 7 years circumnavigation on board of their performance catamaran Moonwalker, Russell & Karin Carlyon realized none of the tenders available in the market provided all of the key aspects they felt were important for a good tender. Russell's background as a competitive windsurfer and high performance board builder provided confidence to utilize high tech materials to build a lightweight structure strong enough to perform as a cruising tender.

The brief was to achieve a durable design, light enough to be handled and carried by a single person or couple, provide a dry ride; stability with mobility and efficiency, and good protection against docks. Starting with the OC300 manufactured in 2014 and tested by full time offshore cruisers in the South Pacific, the OC300 set a new standard.

In 2018, Offshore Cruising Tenders invested in their own manufacturing facilities emphasizing vertical integration, self-reliance, and efficient building methods to grow the brand and expand rapidly.
