Salthouse Boats
Salthouse Boatbuilders has been crafting custom boats tailored specifically to each new owner's requirements for over 60 years, spanning two generations. The company launched its first boat in 1956, founded by John Salthouse, who became an iconic figure in the New Zealand marine industry. John's extensive knowledge and passion for boating were passed on to his sons, who have continued the family legacy.
In 2007, Greg Salthouse, the youngest son of John Salthouse, took over the family business. Greg leads the company as Executive Director, bringing hands-on expertise in state-of-the-art composite construction as well as traditional boatbuilding methods. A keen yachtsman with national titles in keelboat and dinghy sailing, Greg uses his lifetime of practical boating experience to propel the business forward, focusing on fast-paced tenders and coach boats.
Following the high demand for quality Salthouse boats and the success of the Catalyst chase boats, Greg and his wife Delayne made a conscious decision in 2019 to adjust the company focus for a better work-life balance. They identified a market need for faster and drier coach boats and dedicated themselves to designing boats that represent the quality and innovation the Salthouse name stands for.
Today, Salthouse Coach Boats are gaining recognition worldwide as a smart choice for sailors and coaches seeking high performance and comfort.
The company emphasizes environmental responsibility, investing in sustainability throughout their manufacturing processes. There is a strong focus on reducing waste from fibreglass and epoxy processes to painting methods, with no plastic packaging used in shipping. For each Coach Boat produced, over 150 native trees are planted, contributing to the regeneration of thousands of plants in a local wetland along the Mahoenui Valley Stream in Auckland.
Delayne Salthouse, who grew up around boat sheds and boatyards, now works as a director supporting the business's growth in the global tender market. She has a passion for environmental outcomes and has been recognized with a Yachting New Zealand Excellence Award for her sustainability work. Delayne also volunteers as the Sustainability Representative for one of Auckland’s prominent yacht clubs.
