Overview

About this vessel

This beautiful Classic is one of the most successful competitors of Classic Regattas on the Balearics. Built in 1898 she was designed by Charles Livingstone, member of the English Committee of the America 27s Cup, for his own use.

This unique Classic is not a delicate museum piece but a true vintage yacht to be sailed hard as originally intended.

She was designed as a fast cruiser and her undoubted appeal inspired her current owner to rescue her. In doing so he has not just breathed new life into her. Every aspect is impressive. His aim to sail the Classic Circuit with family and friends on a boat 2D without weakness in her structure which includes a solid teak deck. A gaff rig with top sail will always inspire but she has an almost natural quality about her as she sails. She is fast, strong and beautiful.

When the present owner purchased the yacht in 2003 she was in need of serious attention but worth a thorough rebuilt with the aim she last another 100 years and certainly stronger than originally built. Having now been fully restored and reconverted to her original gaff rig; she is in splendid condition. Launched in 2006 she has already gone to win the Spanish championships for vintage yachts several times.

She has been based in Palma De Mallorca ever since and is definitely worth a visit. Sailing her is a lifetime experience. Due to lack of time she is for sale now.

A key feature of this classic yacht is her strength and to this end the chain-plates have been redesigned in stainless steel to distribute the load of the rig to the entire hull and keel. Each chainplate is reinforced in a ring frame by an individual beam, knee and laminated iroko frame and the plates extend in one piece to the mast foot. The conventionally laid teak deck is also supported by beams, knees, covering board beam shelves and king plank.

With the owner 27s abiding interest in classic racing, the accommodation is quite basic, fitted out in mahogany with white painted deck head. From the raised deckhouse forward, the cockpit companionway steps lead to the aft cabin.

Double berth to port. Single berth to starboard. Access to lazarette and the entire aft part. Opening bronze ports. Moving forward: Main saloon, also accessible from booby hatch and steps from deck. Galley to portside, Taylors 2 hob and oven (petroleum). Sink with fresh water and stowage space. Navigation area and chart table to starboard. Seating area and comfortable pilot berths to either sides. Head with Blake manual WC to starboard. Extensive locker space opposite to port. Foc 27sle with 2 pipe-cot berths.
