SAMARKAND was designed by Olin Stephens (her drawings are renown as the most famous ones of Stephens and are stored in the Museum of Modern Art in New York) and built for Tom Watson Junior, Chairman of IBM in 1958 by Abeking & Rasmussen. She was helmed by celebrities such as the Kennedy family, Grace Kelly, astronaut John Glen and Sir Anthony Eden to name a few.

Measuring just 17m (55.7ft) the yacht was designed by Olin Stephens and built for Tom Watson Junior, Chairman of IBM in 1958 by Abeking & Rasmussen. She has been helmed by well renowned celebrities such as the Kennedy family, Grace Kelly, astronaut John Glenn and Sir Anthony Eden.

This classic SAMARKAND is for sale through our brokerage. She underwent an extensive refit in 2000 where her interior was redesigned of quarter sawn Siberian ash; her latest refit was in 2008.

S/Y SAMARKAND has classical beautiful sweeping lines, a true sailing machine of her day. She has spacious teak decks to relax and sun, a large cockpit is safely surrounded by traditional style wood combing.

SAMARKAND exudes the quality and craftsmanship. Built by the famous Abeking & Rasmussen yard of Germany in 1958 for Tom Watson jr. with unlimited budget. Her actual owner found her in Canada and sailed her to the Mediterranean. Big investments were made for her extensive refits in 2000 and 2008.

Below decks the yachts interior is warm and inviting, the salon boasts ample seating and a formal dining space, complete with built in fireplace. Ideal for small families or honeymooners.

Samarkand has been continually maintained and in 2000 an interior of quarter sawn Siberian ash was designed and built.

SAMARKAND accommodates up to 8 guests. A master cabin offers a king size bed and single berth, a further cabin has 2 twin beds, while the salon offers 2 pilot berths on port and starboard, one which can convert into a double.

She is equipped with a Tender with 6hp engine, TV, DVD, Bose sound system and a fireplace. When not under sail she is powered by a Wersterbreke 85hp engine, capable of 9 knots.
