About this vessel
A true bluewater cruiser with a story to tell.
Lucky Star is a cherished 1981 Gulfstar 44 designed by Vince Lazarra and built for serious offshore life. This isn't a weekend boat—she's a seasoned ocean-crosser, recently relocated from the USA to Queensland, and now ready for her next crew.
Freshwater-raised on the Great Lakes and later sailed across the Pacific, Lucky Star combines low-corrosion integrity with proven bluewater bones. She's been carefully upgraded, with major systems thoughtfully enhanced for independent cruising and liveaboard comfort.
Sleeps 6 comfortably, with two private cabins, full galley featuring fridge, freezer, microwave, and cookware, and custom bedding. The spacious center-cockpit layout offers teak interior, bimini, dodger, and cockpit cushions. A stereo system and full tool kit, spares, manuals, and onboard gear are included.
The hull features fibreglass encapsulation with Norseman rigging, rebuilt steering cables, and resurfaced non-skid decks. Navigation and safety systems include a Garmin chartplotter, radar, autopilot, VHF, EPIRB, and full safety kit.
Successfully sailed from the USA to Australia—no small feat. Freshwater heritage means minimal salt exposure, resulting in stronger hull integrity and less wear. She's not flashy—she's honest. Built in an era when yachts were made to last, and cared for by owners who lived aboard and sailed far.
