Overview

About this vessel

If you're looking for a serious offshore cruiser that's genuinely set up to live aboard and cross oceans, this Roberts Offshore 45 deserves your attention. Designed by Bruce Roberts and built at Fortuna Boatyard in South Africa, this is a heavy-displacement, cutter-rigged ketch with a long reputation for safe, comfortable blue-water passagemaking.

She presents as an honest, well-sorted vessel that has clearly been maintained with cruising in mind rather than marina aesthetics. Recently painted topsides using Norglass two-part, the boat looks fresh and tidy while still retaining the solid, purposeful feel these designs are known for. The deck was also repainted approximately 2.5 years ago, adding to the overall sense that the big jobs have already been done.

The rig is a standout feature. Standing and running rigging were replaced in 2022, giving real peace of mind for offshore use. The cutter-rigged sail plan is practical and versatile, with a fully battened mainsail with three reefs, furling headsail, staysail, storm jib, and an MPS in a sock for downwind work. All sails were inspected by Bravo Sails around 1.5 years ago and have seen little use since.

Below deck, she's very well suited to long-term living aboard. The interior offers generous accommodation with excellent storage and a practical galley. Fresh water capacity is substantial at approximately 1,200 litres across five GRP tanks, ideal for extended cruising or off-grid living.

Power comes from a reliable Volvo Penta TAMD315 turbo diesel producing 110hp, with low recorded hours and economical cruising at 7-8 knots. Systems onboard include solar charging, Victron battery management, shore power, Furuno navigation electronics, radar, and a Raymarine autopilot (currently requiring attention).

Safety and deck gear are well covered, with substantial ground tackle, multiple bilge pumps, and a practical deck layout that's easy to manage short-handed. Batteries were replaced approximately 2.5 years ago.

This is not a lightweight coastal cruiser — it's a genuine offshore yacht built to look after you at sea and provide a comfortable, capable home wherever you drop the hook. Ideal for a couple planning extended cruising, a circumnavigation, or a serious liveaboard lifestyle.
