Island Packet 44

Beacon was purchased by the current owner in 2013 as the second owner. She has been meticulously maintained and upgraded over the years by a very knowledgeable owner and is truly in sail away condition.

Following the 2013 purchase, extensive improvements were undertaken. Both air conditioning units were replaced with Dometic turbo units, and the inverter and battery charger were replaced. The generator was replaced with a Northern Lights 6kw unit, with all plumbing, shielding, and wiring upgraded to ABYC standards, including a header tank, transfer pump, filter, remote fuel gauge, and properly routed exhaust hoses.

A fuel polishing system was installed with Raycor strainers, larger main fuel lines and pickups, and a Fass filter and pump assembly, following thorough tank cleaning. The black water macerator was replaced with a Sealand diaphragm type pump.

In 2018, the prop shaft was replaced, the bow thruster solenoid pack was replaced, a Maxprop Easy 4 blade prop was installed, the cutless bearing was replaced, and the shaft log was removed and serviced. The rudder was removed and inspected with bearings and packing renewed. A PYI flexible coupling was installed, stanchions and hardware were removed and rebedded, the turbocharger was replaced with coolers inspected and cleaned, a multi-v alternator drive belt modification was installed, and a Tides Marine sail track was fitted. A Doyle Sails Stackpack was installed.

In 2019, the instruments were updated with a NEMA 2000 backbone installed. Old instruments and associated wiring were removed and replaced with a B&G system with displays, ram type autopilot, B&G NEMA 2000 hard wired wind instrument at the mast top, B&G 4g radar, and flux gate compass.

In 2020, the rig was removed, all mast wiring was replaced, the mast step was inspected and serviced, and mast antennae and mast mounted lighting were replaced. New chain plates of oversized 316 stainless were installed by Mack Yacht Services. All sails were new from Mack Sails, with a Code zero installed. The sails have less than 10 hours of use. Standing rigging was replaced by Mack Sails. Bilge pump and sump pump systems were updated and renewed.

In 2023, the non skid was refinished with gel coat, the chrome rub rail was replaced, all foredeck and bowsprit attachments were disassembled and restored as necessary with hardware replaced, and 200 feet of chain rode was replaced. The anchor windless was disassembled, inspected, and brushes were replaced. Teak eye brows were fabricated and installed.

In 2024, thru-hulls were replaced, sanitation hoses were replaced, toilets were replaced, the rudder was removed and inspected with a new rudder shoe fabricated and installed, scupper hoses were replaced fore and aft, teak was refinished, the bottom was painted, and the shore power system was surveyed and renewed with replacement shore power cords, various adapters, and Hubble hullside receptacles.

In 2025, interior fans were replaced, house batteries were replaced, Starlink was installed, the Questus radar mount was replaced, engine mounts were replaced, anchor winch foot switches were replaced, a new Whale manual bilge pump was installed, and the teak and holly sole was refinished in the salon and forward berth.
