One of the defining features of the Amel 50 is its signature offset helm, positioned beneath a protective cockpit hardtop. From this commanding position the skipper has excellent visibility and easy access to all sail controls. Unlike earlier designs, the cockpit on the Amel 50 is remarkably spacious, incorporating: Large protected seating area, Generous aft sun deck, Fold-down swim platform providing excellent access to the water. The sail plan is designed for simple, manageable sailing, ideal for a cruising couple: In-mast furling mainsail, Furling genoa, Self-tacking staysail, Gennaker for light wind performance, Spinnaker pole for poling out the genoa. All sail controls are led aft to the cockpit and managed by a bank of three electric winches, making sail handling straightforward and efficient.
Propulsion is provided by a Volvo 110hp engine with approximately 1560 hours, delivering reliable performance and excellent cruising economy. The engine drives a Varifold propeller on a shaft drive, while manoeuvring is assisted by a retractable bow thruster.
The yacht is well equipped for extended cruising with a modern onboard power system, including: 200W solar array (new in 2025), Additional portable solar panel, Lithium house battery bank, 3500W inverter (new in 2025). These systems allow the yacht to operate comfortably away from marinas for extended periods.
At the helm the yacht is equipped with a comprehensive navigation suite including: 10-inch Garmin GPSMap plotter, Multifunction displays, Linear drive autopilot plus backup autopilot, VHF radio, Iridium GO satellite communication system, Integrated AIS Class B transceiver. This setup provides excellent situational awareness and reliable communications for offshore sailing.
Stepping below reveals a beautifully finished light oak interior that feels modern, bright and spacious. To port is a forward-facing navigation station, followed by a comfortable U-shaped dinette, while opposite is a bench seat creating a relaxed and social saloon space. The galley runs aft to starboard, positioned securely near the companionway and featuring: Two drawer-style refrigerators, Force 10 three-burner stove with oven, Excellent storage and practical working space.
