Owner's Comments

Having built and sailed an Alerion 33 for years—which I loved—I was ready to 'take it up a notch'. I was looking for more water line length and more sailing performance and was intrigued by the approach Leonardo Yachts takes with sail controls on the Eagle 44 with a captive reel winch under the deck for the mainsheet and the addition of a separate powered winch forward in the cockpit primarily for the main halyard. But the look of this boat is something else! She is incredibly beautiful and so well built. She boasts a truly comfortable cockpit for guests and is a sheer joy to sail—which I do not hesitate to do singlehanded. She has exceeded my expectations in every way and is only for sale to make room in life for a new Oyster and the upcoming Oyster World Rally.

Hull and Deck

Foam-core epoxy hull laminate with integrated recessed cove line. Foam-cored epoxy laminate superstructure finished in off-white gelcoat. Below the waterline features epoxy primers and barrier coat finished with black antifouling. Inside of hull and bilges painted white. Torpedo shaped bulb keel with stainless steel construction, GRP fin fairing, and lead bulb. Permateek decking color Ash with black caulking. Flush anchor locker hatch with gas spring and large aft lazarette with flush hatch and gas spring.

Cockpit and Aft Deck

The T-shaped cockpit is one of the focal points of this design, well laid out for sail handling and docking from the helm, with gobs of space forward for lounging. Centered around a solid mahogany double-leaf table with refrigeration and a stainless sink both concealed within. A large drawer for essentials is accessed on the aft end of the table, with custom stainless controls for lighting just above and right where you want them. Settees are wide and long enough for stretching out and seat backs are angled just right and framed by an exquisite mahogany varnished coaming. Large cockpit sail lockers provide storage aplenty.

The large aft deck on the boat is another draw; an exciting place to perch when sailing and comfy spot to lounge when on the hook. Self-draining cockpit with Permateek flooring. Benches and cockpit lockers finished in Permateek with varnished mahogany capping rail on the cockpit coaming.

Cabin

Well laid out and with a functional head, skylight and large opening hatch for light and ventilation, multiple settees and a generous double berth. Optional extra refrigeration tucked beneath the companionway step is a nice touch. Plenty of room for an overnight and all the ephemera that accompanies a gaggle of family and friends. The companionway hatch lifts up on a gas strut which makes getting in and out of the interior a cinch. Oversized double berth forward with partial bulkhead for separation from the salon. White interior with mahogany trim and Permateek flooring. Ceiling finished in off white Alcantara fabric.

Mechanical and Electrical

Easily accessible Volvo common rail electronic diesel engine with saildrive and a nifty waterjet powered bow thruster that is both powerful and incredibly quiet! 12 V electrical system with Mastervolt batteries and shore power with battery charger. Navigational lights including 3-colour top, anchor, steam, stern and red/green bow light.

Rigging and Sails

Aluminum mast painted black with carbon fibre furling boom painted black. Dyform 6mm shrouds and 6mm fixed backstay with trimming blocks lead to cockpit. Two spreaders sets and one jumper spreader set. Hydraulic boom vang and hydraulic backstay. Performance T-bulb lead with stainless steel GRP fin construction. North Sails NPC cross-cut upgraded to 3Di Endurance with mainsail and furling jib.

Electronics

Full suite of Raymarine electronics including Axiom+ 9" Hybrid touch multifunctional display/plotter with Navionics+ USA East coast charts, EV200 Autopilot, i70 instrument displaying wind, boat speed, depth and heading, and RAY90 VHF. Transducer with water speed, depth and water temperature.

Deck and Safety

Stainless steel swimming ladder with 4 steps, electric anchor winch with custom stainless steel folding arm and hot water heater. Safety equipment includes automatic and manual bilge pumps, emergency tiller, fire extinguisher, and safety boarding ladder.
