Jeanneau Sun Fast 30 OD
Overview
About this vessel
The Sun Fast 30 One Design is a 30-foot offshore racing sailboat developed through collaboration between Jeanneau and Multiplast. The design project was initiated by three prestigious offshore sailing clubs: UNCL-Racing Division from the Yacht Club de France, the Royal Ocean Racing Club (UK), and the Storm Trysail Club (US), with the aim of encouraging the discipline, making sailing more accessible, and training the new generation. The boat was designed by VPLP Design and represents the outcome of their winning entry in the international "Class 30: Let's Build the Future" competition.
The Sun Fast 30 One Design features a powerful and versatile modern hull with a semi-scow design, adapted specifically for offshore racing purposes. Multiplast brought its cutting-edge expertise in the conception of offshore racing boats to develop this one-design monohull with attention to every detail, creating a seaworthy, well-equipped, and accessible boat. The design emphasizes ease of maintenance and limited budget considerations.
Jeanneau manufactures the Sun Fast 30 One Design at its boatyard in Cheviré, near Nantes, providing manufacturing expertise, agility, industrial capacity, and the services, guarantees, and technical support of its global distribution network.
A key innovation is the use of Elium® resin, a thermoplastic resin by Arkema made of 20% recycled material and fully recyclable. This resin enables production waste to be recycled and allows the deconstruction and recycling of all composite parts through the separation of fibres and matrix. It maintains the same mechanical properties as traditional resin, allowing construction at similar weight while preserving performance and reliability. The Sun Fast 30 One Design will be the first series-production recyclable sailboat. This development followed more than three years of research and development within Bénéteau Group in collaboration with Arkema. Two engine options are offered—a traditional thermal engine and an electric one—both with the same weight and with no consequence for the one-design class.
Ouest Composites Industries in Auray, a subsidiary of Carboman Group (parent company of Multiplast), is currently producing the preforms and moulds for the boat.
