Vol de Nuit, an exceptional and rare integral aluminium sailing yacht built to Gilbert Caroff plans and refitted in 2018 to the model of Fleur Australe.
The hull is constructed in 16-millimetre aluminium. More than 200,000 euros in invoices document the careful, continuous maintenance. The yacht features a closed, insulated wheelhouse for 6 people and twin engines. She draws minimal water and is absolutely ready to sail. The last hull preparation was in June 2025, with extensive photographs and video documentation both out of water and afloat.
Designed to voyage far, in cold regions, and for extended periods.
The refit at AFEP shipyard in La Rochelle during 2017 included the construction of the closed, insulated wheelhouse; rigid pulpits, gantry and berth for tender; complete electronics and electrical overhaul; installation of generator, desalinator, Dikinson heating stove and Eberspacher heating system.
The interior comprises a large aft cabin and two forward cabins with bunks, mattresses and cabin desks; an aft head with shower and a forward head with shower, both with electric toilets; a saloon with raised table and external views; a library berth; a forward workshop with washing machine; and a galley with ENO two-burner stove and oven (2023), refrigerator and freezer.
Heating is provided by convectors in each cabin and saloon, blower radiators in the heads, an Eberspacher boiler with air heaters in cabins and heads, and a Dikinson Antarctic stove in the saloon with air heaters throughout.
Electronics include Furuno M1835 radar with 10.4-inch screen, Furuno FCV628 colour sounder, a fanless 15-inch 256 SSD PC with 19-inch navigation screen at the chart table, AIS transceiver with antenna, a 17-inch screen in the wheelhouse, two Simrad autopilots including a NAC 3 AP 44 with wind mode (2023), a Simrad wind indicator (2022), a long-range 3G/4G antenna array (20 NM coastal reception), a Starlink marine antenna with 50 GB subscription (2024), and an Iridium 9555 telephone with fixed antenna. Power comes from four 12-volt Odyssee service batteries (214 Ah), two 24-volt service batteries for radar, sounder and deck systems, plus dedicated batteries for each engine, generator, windlass and bow thruster. Two solar panels are mounted on the gantry.
A rigid Whaly 5-person tender with 6-hp Tohatsu engine is included, along with two diving cylinders (6-litre and 12-litre, tested 2024), a narghile with hose and regulator (2022), sea-water deck wash pump, a Bombard offshore life raft (serviced 2023), six life jackets (serviced 2023), and 2023-vintage flares and smoke signals.
