Explorer 50 Grand Voyage
Overview
About this vessel
The eXplorer 50 is a serious long-range aluminium centreboard yacht designed by Bernard Nivelt and built by Futuna Yachts for passagemaking, expedition sailing, and comfortable life aboard. Her specification is built around strength, autonomy, and offshore practicality.
Construction is in aluminium 5083H111 with robust structural framing and watertight compartmentation. CE certified Category A "Ocean" for serious bluewater cruising.
The variable draft centreboard system ranges from 1.12 m to 3.30 m, providing shallow access and deep-water performance. Ballast of 5,200 kg gives strong stability for offshore conditions.
Sail area upwind is 130 m², with a carbon mast and boom available as an option. Rig and sails include a self-tacking staysail, Hydranet genoa and mainsail, gennaker, and asymmetric spinnaker.
Propulsion is by a Perkins 92 hp engine with ZF Hurth transmission, Python Drive coupling, and J-Prop feathering propeller.
Electrical systems include 12 gel service batteries, Victron Quattro inverter/chargers, 740 W solar, wind generation, and hydrogeneration.
Accommodation includes 3 cabins, 6 berths, 2 heads, a large sail locker, and a technical cabin with space for generator, watermaker, and dive compressor. The wheelhouse offers protected watchkeeping, heated comfort in cold climates, and shaded living in the tropics.
Safety and cruising equipment includes a 6-person liferaft, EPIRB, bow thruster, windlass, radar, AIS, Starlink, and extensive ground tackle. Storage is exceptional, with large lazarette volume, deck lockers, and space for cruising spares, tenders, and expedition gear.
This yacht is well suited to high-latitude exploration, tropical passagemaking, charter, or family world cruising.
