If you are looking to explore the US East Coast, Bahamas, Caribbean, across the Atlantic, or out across the Pacific and around the world, the Southerly 535 presents an incredible combination of sailing performance, living space, quality, and the ability to enter and explore shallow waters where no other vessels can go. With her keel-up draft of just over 3 feet, entire areas of the Bahamas, central america, and beyond are at your fingertips. She is already configured for effortless off-grid living for extended periods of time.
Her 3 cabin/2 head layout boasts centerline queen berths with en suite heads and showers fore and aft, and a midships cabin with 2 bunk berths just forward of the mast for comfortable passage berths as well as accommodating additional guests.
Her deck salon features all of the advantages of a pilot house with a massive dinette giving panoramic views at anchor or on watch under way, and a full control station at the forward facing navigation/lower helm including an engine control, autopilot control, and full instrumentation for keeping watch in perfect comfort in cold or wet weather.
On deck her twin wheels give excellent control and visibility while sailing. A few steps forward of the twin helms is a deep and well protected cockpit area with ample seating, table, and a forward mounted chart plotter with autopilot control for keeping watch under the dodger but still on deck.
Entering her companionway down just a few steps leads to the raised salon with excellent light and visibility, as well as a true lower helm and navigation station/work-from-boat desk with a view.
Going aft from the salon entrance and down a few steps to port is the incredible galley. It is narrow enough for safely cooking under way, but still gives ample working counter space. Twin drawer freezer holds ample provisions.
Aft of the galley is the spacious full beam master suite with vertical windows giving impressive views from your cabin. There is an en-suite full head with tecma electric flush toilets, a separate shower stall, and washing machine behind a watertight panel.
Through a watertight hatch from aft head is a walk-in engine room.
Going forward from the salon and down a few steps to starboard there is a sitting area with large vertical windows, and inlaid chess board. This area can drop down to become a perfect sea berth with lee cloth.
Walking forward and past the mast there is a twin bunk cabin to port and a second head with shower to starboard.
Continuing forward is a large forward guest cabin with island queen berth, direct access to the forward head, and ample stowage.
Dubois Naval Architects worked alongside the Southerly design team to create the Southerly 535. Innovative design, sleek styling, powerful sailing performance, superior build quality and luxurious accommodation are all hallmarks of this superb yacht.
The hull is characterised by a long waterline, fine entry and beam carried aft to ensure the highest degree of performance, comfort, stability and safety. The beautifully stylish lines of the coachroof exude sophistication and elegance, normally only seen on much larger yachts.
The Southerly 535 is designed for easy handling, and can be sailed by just two people. The tall powerful rig with swept back spreaders will keep the yacht sailing fast in all weather conditions, with minimum effort. The double headsail rig is suitable for most wind conditions and sailing environments; the self tacking jib allows you to sail easily on short tacks without any effort - ideal for coastal cruising. The overlapping genoa enhances upwind performance in light airs, and together, the double headsail is perfect for down wind trade wind sailing. An asymmetric gennaker, for off wind sailing, can be flown from a bowsprit. In boom furling is standard.
The lift keel is seen to be the perfect compliment to a blue water cruiser. Offering a deeper draft than most, for sailing offshore, whilst having the flexibility to cruise shallow waters anywhere in the world with the draft reduced to just a few feet. This has the added benefit of enabling a yacht of this size to find shelter in remote places from heavy weather and storms, by getting closer inshore and mooring in anchorages inaccessible to fixed keel yachts.
