Overview

About this vessel

An excellent and comfortable custom sailing yacht, one of the safer vessels of her kind. Built and launched in 1968 for a round-the-world voyage, she is equipped with a collision bulkhead and five watertight compartments, with heavily constructed aluminum hatches that can be dogged down. She is quite capable of doing 200nm-plus per day under sail. With her roller furling rig, she can be easily handled by a crew of two.

The yacht spent the best part of 30 years sailing the Caribbean from the 1970s through the early 2000s, before making her way to Australia. In 2006, she undertook a comprehensive refit that began in Australia and continued for several years. This refit, reportedly costing in excess of one million Australian Dollars, included fitting new sections to the hull and extensive fairing. After being sailed to Thailand, she received a complete new Burmese teak interior by local craftsmen, Teak Timber Phuket.

The current owner purchased the yacht in 2016 and has continued extensive upgrades. In 2017, a partial rebuild of the engine was undertaken in situ, including new pistons, liners, rods, bearings, and fuel injectors. New air conditioning was fitted. In 2018, a new Kohler 17Kw generator was installed, along with prop shaft and rudder bearing replacement, Hundesteadt prop rebuild, new stuffing box and seals. In 2019, a new Victron inverter was fitted and electrical wiring and electronics were upgraded. In 2020, new LiFePo main batteries and 2 x solar panels were fitted, along with a new headsail.

The yacht features an elegant timber interior and many systems have either been rebuilt or replaced. The three-cabin layout includes a separate master cabin aft with access to the centre cockpit and aft leisure cockpit. The master ensuite contains a queen-size bed, en-suite head and shower, all accessed via a private staircase and opening to the aft leisure cockpit for a private, comfortable space at sea. A guest stateroom on the port side contains two single bunks, en-suite head, and ample cupboard space. Forward crew accommodation provides three berths with an en-suite head, located on the starboard side forward of the salon. The versatile layout offers practical sailing and ease of sail handling, with capacity to accommodate nine persons if the salon day bed is used. The high-quality aluminum hull is from the renowned builder Palmer Johnson.

The mast was removed and inspected in Australia in 2007 with full service of components and furlers. The alloy masts are totally overbuilt for their purpose. Sails date from 2002 and are in reasonable shape, kept constantly furled. Various storm sails and an asymmetric kite in a sock are included. Some rigging has been replaced in Phuket.

The dependable and efficient GM 8V71 engine will provide 8–10 knots with a range of 2500 miles.
