About this vessel
MUSTANG is an 83' sailing yacht with a reputation established in ports around the world. Originally commissioned by an experienced American yachtsman, she is based on Doug Peterson's well-known Ocean 80 performance hull, built by Southern Ocean Shipyard. The hull was extended by three feet to accommodate a large lazarette before she was sent to Camper & Nicholsons Shipyard.
Her construction combines a fiberglass (GRP) hull and superstructure, solid laminate below the waterline, and fiberglass with an end-balsa core from three inches above the waterline to below the cap rail. Teak decks are laid over fiberglass with a balsa core.
A standout feature is MUSTANG's fully enclosed pilothouse, which serves as both a helm station and lounge and opens directly to the spacious lower salon. Full yacht operations can be managed from the pilothouse, while the exterior helm allows one person to control the steering, furlers and primary sail trim. Although accommodations are provided for up to three crew, she can be sailed by two or three people, making her well suited to shorthanded cruising. On deck, a spacious, protected cockpit is followed by the steering cockpit aft, with additional social areas possible on the aft deck and foredeck.
