Naema was built based on the iconic 1930s Alfred Milne-designed schooner, Panda. Like Panda, she's a powerful gaff-rigged topsail schooner with a jackyard main topsail, full topsails on the foremast, and a full suite of headsails. When her gollywobbler and spinnaker are up, she really flies—it's an impressive sight.
Though Naema may look like a classic, she's packed with modern upgrades. Her power winches, advanced electronics, and updated handling systems make sailing a whole lot easier. A crew of seven can comfortably manage her, even on longer trips. While she stays true to her traditional style—think raised panel joinery, leaded glass, and soft rolled leather upholstery—she doesn't skimp on comfort. Whether you're docked or way out at sea, she's got everything you need for living well onboard.
The deck salon offers shelter from the elements and has plenty of windows to give you a full 360-degree view from its cozy interior. Here we find the navigation station, a service station with a fridge, sink, coffee station, a day head, and two comfortable seating areas.
The main salon and dining salon are midship and feel airy and bright due to the width and height. The ceiling has two large skylights that let in plenty of natural light and ventilation. The wooden interior and the lush rolled and pleated leather upholstery gives you the authentic nautical feel while enjoying your evening meal.
The deck layout on Naema is vast with plenty of space to maneuver. The helm is elevated to provide 360-degree view and easy access to all controls to navigate. Beautifully detailed instruments in brass adorn the helm.
The guest cockpit has a varnished table with surrounding sofa seating that can easily hold 8–10 guests. The area is protected from the wind by the raised pilot house. Mid deck offers plenty of space for stowage of both the tender as well as a classic Whitehall rowing and sailing tender.
Up on the foredeck we find a large ideal windlass and stowage for her anchors, staysail boom, plus access to the crew area below.
Naema has been through a detailed refit in 2014–15 by Hodgon Yachts, Boothbay, Maine. Her condition is impeccable both below and above deck. She was the winner of the 2019 Classic Schooner Association Regatta. She is built as a replica of schooner Panda from 1938, just with a modern touch for easier maneuvering and more comfortable living.
She has some great entertainment areas such as the guest cockpit, the upper saloon areas, as well as the lower saloon with dining areas. She has three beautiful staterooms with en-suite, a separate crew area, and a gourmet galley.
