Happy Ours is a 2022 Beneteau Oceanis 40.1, designed by Marc Lombard with interior styling by Nauta Design. This hull blends contemporary cruising comfort with performance sailing, offering interior volumes and cockpit space far beyond typical 40-foot yachts—so much so that the Oceanis 40.1 often "feels like a 45-foot cruiser." The design features a flared hull that remains stiff and efficient under sail, an expansive cockpit enhanced with teak decking and custom cushions, and Beneteau's signature fully opening transom swim platform, perfect for days at anchor or long coastal passages.
Happy Ours is one of the most livable and versatile 40-foot cruisers. Her thoughtful layout makes her ideal for couples or small families who want both comfort and sailing capability. The teak cockpit and cushions elevate the onboard living experience, while her sail plan and twin wheels ensure easy, confident handling under a variety of conditions.
The vessel features two cabins: an owner's cabin forward with a centerline double berth and full vanity, and an aft cabin double berth. A dedicated utility and storage room doubles as an optional berth with a twin mattress in the workshop area for more flexible sleeping accommodations than a standard two-cabin layout. The single head is a dry head, meaning the shower area is isolated from the marine toilet, with double doors accessible from both the salon and the aft cabin.
The interior showcases a bright, open design with a white oak finish. The galley to starboard features abundant counter space and storage, with a double stainless steel sink to help preserve fresh water consumption. A gimbaled propane 2-burner stove and oven with electric solenoid switch and a 12-volt refrigerator with both top- and bottom-loading configurations complete the galley. The large saloon includes U-shaped seating and a table with a modular layout for flexible living and sleeping arrangements. A chart table and navigation station at the companionway foot provides ample workspace. Multiple hull ports and overhead hatches offer ventilation and natural light throughout the vessel.
The vessel is powered by a Yanmar 4JH45 45 HP diesel engine with shaft drive and a bronze 3-blade propeller, with 787 engine hours logged. A Sleipner bow thruster is installed for enhanced maneuverability. Dual-zone air conditioning with reverse cycle heat, a pressurized freshwater system with expansion tank and inline filter, and a hot water heater are fitted. Electrical systems include a 50A shore power inlet with cord, a battery charging system, LED interior and navigation lighting, and a Panda 8000i generator.
Electronics comprise a B&G navigation suite with Zeus 3 chartplotters at each helm position, GPS, depth and log sensors, and wind sensors. B&G autopilot with remote helm control, VHF with remote handset, and a Fusion stereo system with speakers in the cockpit and saloon complete the electronics package.
The vessel features a deck-stepped aluminum mast with in-mast furling mainsail. With an air draft of 60 feet 2 inches, the rig is Intracoastal-friendly. A self-tacking jib is standard with furling gear; the vessel is currently configured with a traditionally-sheeted genoa, but the self-tacking track is installed for flexibility. Genoa fairleads can be adjusted from the safety of the cockpit. Spinnaker and Code 0 capability is available with optional bowsprit hardware. Rigging is led aft to the cockpit with rope clutches, organizers, and manual and electric winches, including a Harken 2-speed electric winch on the coachroof port side and Harken manual, self-tailing primary winches. An emergency boarding ladder is installed at the stern rail.
The hull is polyester fiberglass with a structural inner molding bonded to the hull for stiffness. The deck features injected foam sandwich construction with a non-skid surface. Twin rudders provide responsive helm and balanced control under heel. Both helm positions feature a folding bench and a lifting floor panel that serves as a brace when heeling. A fold-down powered transom becomes a spacious swim platform, signature to the Oceanis 40.1. The cockpit includes a table with folding leaves, a refrigerated compartment, and storage for a life raft. An integrated telescoping swim ladder and a hot and cold freshwater shower near the swim transom are fitted. Stainless steel fittings include bow fitting and roller, foredeck anchor locker with Quick electric windlass, guardrails, stanchions, pulpits, pushpits, and coachroof handrails.
