A home for successive adventurous families, SINDBAD is now offered for sale to her next adventurers. Built in 1930 in Holland, the boat was remodeled into a private vessel about 30 years ago in Gronigen, Denmark, then yet more refit works in Venezuela in 1991. By now SINDBAD has circumnavigated almost two times. Trade wind sailing can be enjoyed under sail alone and the miles will slip by.
The keel cooled eight cylinder GARDNER main engine is an astonishing piece of engineering, only sipping fuel and with a huge range. A THRIGE auto pilot and SVENDBORG steering gear has run non stop for many years now, maintenance free. The vessel's systems are simple, sensible and very efficient.
SINDBAD has chartered in the Caribbean, featured on TV shows and has been a wood working shop, a copper sculpting shop and art gallery. The boat has yet more potential for conversion in the main hold—a vast space that is currently set aside for storage and work shop.
The interior of SINDBAD has been converted beautifully, offering a most elegant and traditional feel to life aboard such a vessel. The central alfresco deck of the boat is the focal point of outdoor life, with a varnished mahogany table and ten deck chairs complete with cover and drop downs for total enclosure at times. Cabins are fore and aft of here. One large en-suite cabin forward has a queen size walk around, a generous bathroom with separate shower and head, marble counter top and sink. Eight large opening bronze ports, laminated bamboo sole and white deckhead add beautifully to the mix. Entry to the vessel's cargo hold is from this cabin.
Full forward on deck takes you to the fo'c'sle cabin, a beautiful spot with its own head up on deck. It features a queen size double, one single berth, two settees, table and sink. Two large opening ports.
Moving back to the alfresco deck brings us to a door on the port side into the aft section plus teak ladders up each side to the wheelhouse and poop deck. Entering the door takes us into the large galley, another great focal point for SINDBAD. In the galley there are steps up to the wheelhouse and a door into the aft cabin. The main aft cabin features a large teak desk, mahogany bookshelves and wardrobe and a double berth adjoined, port side. The blue cabin is a single berth cabin forward to starboard.
The commanding wheelhouse has a neat settee and table set out for crew to enjoy passage-making. The wheelhouse is solid teak with ten bronze 2ft x 2ft ports all around; the wheelhouse exterior is 2" mahogany planking. The side decks and the large aft area are covered and a circular table can seat six for dinner in a most romantic setting.
A very functional and attractive galley with four opening ports. An upright HAIER fridge/freezer, separate HAIER freezer, VIKING HD 4 burner stove and oven, teak galley table and settee plus two chairs, cork floors, corian countertop and large enamel sinks. Excellent cupboard and drawer space with much kitchenware, tableware and utensils.
Three domestic salt water flushing toilets, one aft, one amidships and one full forward at fo'c'sle.
SINDBAD is a beautiful old piece of the past, solidly and exquisitely built by craftsmen long gone. She must be seen to be appreciated. She is an ideal home for a family to cruise the world or could be easily converted for charter, diving, salvage or other uses.
