Overview
About this vessel
This is an opportunity to own a meticulously rebuilt Australian registered round bilge steel sloop, which regrettably has to be sold due to health reasons. The hull, including keel, has been completely reconstructed and strengthened to higher than original specifications with no expense spared. Engine to propellor as new. Mast and standing rigging replaced and completed. Nine sails in good condition. The only remaining task on this beloved project is for the buyer to complete refitting the interior, hence this exceedingly competitive price.
Hull & Structure
The hull is constructed in 3mm Corten steel. The bottom has been re-plated with 4mm steel stem to stern, keel to waterline. The keel has been re-shod with 10mm 316 stainless steel and re-plated with 4mm 316 stainless steel. Additionally, 500 kg of cast lead has been added to the bottom on both sides, plus 250 kg to the top. A second set of half frames has been fitted throughout, and a complete new set of floors topped with 316 stainless steel has been installed. These highly recommended modifications have added approximately 0.9 ton of extra weight and raised the waterline by 50mm. The hull has been sandblasted inside and out, primed and painted with all 2-pack epoxy. It has been faired with Technifill XP1160 epoxy fairing paste as of 2020.
New propellor shaft tube and engine mounts have been realigned to clear the skeg and rudder, facilitating removal of the shaft. A new 1¼" 316 shaft has been fitted, along with a new taper lock coupling and new cutlass bearings. A new bronze 1¼" stuffing box has been installed.
New 6mm dark Perspex windows, 4 metres long, have been fitted with all window surrounds completed in 316 stainless steel. Two 12mm clear Perspex hatch covers have been installed. A new diesel tank with frame, a 316 stainless steel water tank with frame, and a new black 2205 stainless steel tank for the toilet system have all been fitted and pressure tested.
Mast & Rigging
The mast and rig extend 42.5 ft from deck, slightly heavier and taller by 0.75 metre (2.5 ft) than the original, with a matching boom and nine sails from the same rig. The mast has been re-wired for masthead fittings and lights. Barlow winches (11 total, with 2 self-tailing) have been overhauled and are ready for use, though not yet fitted. A crate of pulleys, blocks, turnbuckles and fittings is included.
The standing rig has been completely replaced with 10mm diameter wire. Sta-Lok terminals (10) have been fitted with new bottom toggles and taper wedges, with some terminals swaged. A choice between single or twin back stays is available, not yet finished—the purchaser can choose. The entire rig has been assembled and tensioned as required.
The original running gear has been kept for pattern use only.
Engine & Propulsion
The 40hp Nissan ED33 4-cylinder engine, originally marinised in 1983 by Diecon of Brisbane, has been re-manufactured prior to fitting with new pistons, liners, bearings, and valves (standard crankshaft). It has been run regularly since being fitted, and all systems—cooling, exhaust, and others—are up and running. A Borg Warner hydraulic direct drive gearbox is fitted. The single 3-bladed bronze propeller has been set to pitch requirements.
Other Equipment & Systems
A new 4mm 316 stainless steel chain locker is fitted with 60 metres of chain. A manual anchor winch and a 25lb CQR anchor are provided. The helm features a pedestal and wheel by Canon with a cable quadrant system. A 6" Sestral compass is fitted. Two bronze ventilators are mounted on teak. Additional items include a rudder position indicator, autopilot, bilge pump, stainless steel hot water system, a set of original seat/bunk cushions in fair condition, switchboard and battery switches, and a box of electronic gear (40-year old) if required.
Spare Parts Included
A Nissan ED33 engine (bottom half including injection pump), a Borg Warner hydraulic direct drive gearbox, a 3-blade propeller of the same size and measurement, a heat exchanger for the cooling system, a stainless steel water tank, and a stainless steel diesel tank are included as spare parts.
