MENTOR is a round bilge steel schooner, the hull design a copy of the Royal Navy's sea cadet training brigantine TS Royalist. She was built to Lloyds A1 survey requirements with 4 main watertight bulkheads and a total of 6 watertight doors.
The vessel was built in Fremantle Western Australia by Hoffland Boatbuilders and was completed in time for chartering during the 1987 America's Cup Challenge in Fremantle that year. Designed for chartering, she did so for five years including three years in the Whitsunday Islands on the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland.
MENTOR moved into SE Asian waters some decades ago as home to her original owner and he has enjoyed life afloat for these past years but now sees the time to move to a smaller yacht. He hands the vessel to a new owner in constantly maintained condition, and can help with all manner of technical information, indeed he has written manuals on all aspects of maintaining his yacht from refrigeration to removing the rudder. The vessel has also spent many years ashore in Langkawi when the owner was away to work. The vessel is a truly well maintained vessel and deserves the attention of anyone seeking a charter yacht or expedition type vessel.
The accommodation is vast. The companionway lands amidships in the saloon and galley area. Two tables and settees opposite each other for dining and the bar and freezer area to port complements the galley opposite.
Full forward is the sail bins and workshop, complete with a 1 metre lathe for metal turning, next is the pantry to port and the forward bathroom and then two twin cabins port and starboard.
Full aft are the two double staterooms port and starboard, moving forward two triple cabins and then the aft bathroom and laundry to port and a starboard double cabin opposite.
This totals 3 double cabins, 2 triple cabins, 2 twin cabins and two bathrooms.
The galley features a Roden Manor full size stove and oven, National microwave oven, multi fixture LPG instantaneous hot water heater, 50 litre electric hot water heater, and a 36 cubic feet refrigerator and 24 cubic feet freezer with Eutectic systems.
The yacht has good tank capacities with 8000 litres of fresh water, 4000 litres of fuel, a 200 litre grey water tank and a 300 litre black tank. Fresh water is supplied by PAR Jabsco pump, grey water and bilge by Davey Dinaprime pumps. The vessel is equipped with two manual bilge pumps, a sewage pump, and a fire pump.
The vessel has two heads. The forward head is a household type that flushes straight into a main black tank. The head in the aft bathroom is a marine head.
The vessel is a 240VAC, 12VDC and 24VDC setup. A 5.5 KVA Dunlite alternator is direct driven by the Ruston air cooled diesel engine. A spare 3.0 KVA Shinyada diesel driven alternator is a portable unit located in the wheelhouse. The vessel carries multiple battery chargers and an inverter, and is equipped with 2 Ampair wind generators and 2 solar panels.
Navigation equipment includes a Seiwa LCD10 T NT chartplotter, Icom M710 HF radio, Uniden MC 480 VHF radio, JRC JMA-2143 raster scan 32nm radar, and Lowrance X-25B sounder/fishfinder. A CCTV deck camera and 14" monitor are also fitted.
Two white painted aluminium masts, main 75 feet and forward mast 70 feet.
The main engine is a Volvo TAMD70D with Volvo alternator. A Ruston diesel engine drives a Dunlite 5.5 KVA alternator for 240 VAC generation. A hydraulic bow thruster (25hp) is driven from the main engine. A reverse osmosis water maker produces 60 litres per hour. Two 6.5 CFM air compressors are fitted for diving air and sandblasting equipment.
