The Hunter Legend 31 is in a rare class of her own, being a modern bilge keeler which offers good accommodation for a 31 footer and which also sails well. Built in the UK, she offers a classic finish down below, and the American design ensures plenty of space with generous beds, a large galley and spacious heads/shower compartment. On deck, the cockpit is spacious, and the trademark "Legend Arch" means that the mainsheet is out of harms way and easy for the helmsman to reach for short-handed sailing. Overall, these are designed to be comfortable and easy to sail for couples, and the bilge keels offer the opportunity for creek-crawling and drying moorings to save on mooring costs.
Built by Luhrs Marine in Portland, Dorset to designs by Warren Luhrs, she features a Kevlar-reinforced balsa-cored hull with bilge keels, a balanced spade rudder with rack and pinion steering, and bronze through-hulls below the waterline. The hull is finished with vinylester resins and isophthalic gelcoat, and was antifouled and polished in May 2025.
The rig is an anodised B&R backstayless design with double spreaders. Standing rigging is original but was professionally inspected in September 2025. New main and spinnaker halyards were fitted in September 2025. The full-roach mainsail features a flaking system and integral sail cover, with dual single-line reefing led aft. Internal halyards lead to the cockpit, and the mainsheet is mounted on the arch. The boat is equipped with two self-tailing winches, inboard jib tracks with cars, a boom vang, and a Windex wind vane.
Accommodation comprises two large double cabins with opening hatches and generous storage. The aft cabin has a large hanging locker. The heads compartment features an integral shower, holding tank with overboard discharge, vanity sink and storage. The saloon features a dinette table with folding leaf, hot and cold pressure water, and a stainless-steel sink. The galley offers a two-burner LPG stove with oven and a generous top-loading fridge. Interior woodwork is teak with a laminate teak-grain cabin sole. A navigation station with space for electronics is positioned near the helm.
On deck, the boat is equipped with a sprayhood, bimini, fenders and warps, bathing ladder, bathing platform, aft gin 'n tonic seats, anchor and chain, and a hot/cold shower on the bathing platform. A folding teak cockpot table is also provided.
